Blown Away

We actually have a storm front moving into Arizona that is supposed to bring rain to the Valley area as early as this evening. We are at 40+ days of no precipitation, so any rain would be nice. I just don't care for some of the winds it brings prior to the storm. Such as last night. It wasn't cloudy as such, but a portion of my route is out in farmland area on the west side of town. The wind had picked up a bit last night, which when driving a 16-foot box truck, is not fun. Being blown by a sporadic gust of wind while on a free way or single-lane road ... grrrr. And I won't get started on the amount of dust (and who knows what else) kicked up into the air .... yes, the sinuses are flowing this morning. Speaking of, I better go take my allergy pill.

Either way, the rain would be welcome. Help clear the air of the dust, etc. if nothing else.It is already somewhat overcast looking this morning. Days like this can sort of make me feel blech, but I think I am too tired to much care today. My shoulders are a bit sore, I assume from fighting the wind in my truck for a few hours. I know I slept good last night.

Tomorrow we are going out for pizza to Peter Piper for the youngest son's late birthday dinner. The Wife wakes me this morning (to run the oldest son to school) and mentions that the oldest is working tech at the school play on Saturday. So now I have to call the RM & PT to reschedule the pizza time. I asked for when - the Wife says she has no clue. I was to help out a buddy with some ovens Saturday morning, but figure I can change the pizza time to about 12:30, and hopefully all will be okay. I'll have to call RM here after I give her time to get to work. Unless she reads this first and calls me.

Sunday is race day here in the Valley, and unfortunately, I won't be going this year. The special deal I get on the inside track turn two fell through for the future, so it looks like to go I need to buy tickets and sit in the stands (blech). This Sunday, I think I shall watch it from the safe and secure bar stool at the local pub.

Go Junior!

The Little Things

The Wife made it home safely last night from Tucson. The boys and I were already in bed, though had not been for long. The Daughter had sent home a little gift for her Daddy. She had made stuffed bell peppers a couple days ago, and kept one back for me as she knows I really like how she makes them. So, for breakfast, because I could not wait, I ate it. It was so good! Maybe not the perfect breakfast, but it sure was good, and I am not hungry now.

Looking forward to this weekend at the track. These guys know how to have a good time, and we have already been told to not worry about food/drink, and no need to bring money (unless we want to buy souvenirs). How cool is that? Of course, I will be bring a bottle of Jack Daniels, to share, and some extra cash to offer payment for letting us in, etc. It still makes my head swell with pride that they asked for me to come again this time around. Maybe it will become a regular thing for the two races we have here each year....?

It is Thursday, and I should start planning on what I am taking. Stuman called me up the other day and decided we want to get there earlier on Saturday. His buddy has a Pit Pass, where before the race you can meet the drivers and walk the garage. I am not really interested in that, though it would be cool to meet Jr. But my bro wants to, and he is driving. I got to remember to give him some money for gas too....

Five Years Ago

I was in my mid-thirties, had a job I enjoyed and made decent money at. The daughter was only in Jr High. We had one computer at home, and though I have the same car now as then, we also had a blue dodge minivan. Things were pretty good. And my youngest son was born.

Today we are headed out to celebrate his birthday, and I know he is going to love the presents he gets today. I went out yesterday and got him the big 6-piece Construction Devastator he wanted, plus the Starscream jet transformer. I also picked up a dinosaur toy as he is into them as well. The Wife has some other presents I know he is going to like as well.

The Daughter made a surprise appearance at our door last night. We were not expecting her to come up this weekend, and her brothers we're really happy she did. It's nice to have all the kids together for a family birthday. The Grandparents don't know she is in town, so will have a nice surprise when they meet up with us for lunch.

Nascar is in Phoenix this week. Supposed to rain this weekend as well. Stuman is headed out today, to watch the Busch series race, and stay the night. I have another friend going for the main race on Sunday, I might tag along and since I don't have a ticket, just hang out and tailgate at her truck. Not sure if I want to do that yet. Depends on the rain situation I think.

See y'all on Monday.

Over the Kick Start Day

I could tell yesterday was Monday... it was hard to get motivated to do anything. At one point, I even laid down, expecting it to only be about an hour. Turned into a 3 1/2 hour nap - though I did feel lots better afterwards.

Sunday, though long, was a good day. The Race happened between my Sis, Reverend Mother, and Stuman. I was there to help coordinate stopwatches, and take pictures. It was a run of 2 miles, and scoring would be based on US Army PT regulations. Meaning, what time they ran it in, modify in the age bracket, and a score is given. Prior to looking up the scores, based on time alone, Stuman was first, then Sis, then Reverend Mother. Now, that was sort of to be expected. RM being the eldest, and Stuman the youngest.

Once we got back to the house, they were all anxiously asking about their score (because Stuman was the one able to figure out the stuff - him being in Army Reserve and all). After the scores, they were able to finally relax and enjoy whatever the rest of us left for them for lunch. Man, there was plenty of food too. I think my family ended up taking home a good third of it seems.

Oh! The scores! Sis had the highest, followed closely by Stuman, and RM pulled 3rd, but only 1 point behind Stuman. Now, I promised I would not embarrass any by their ages (if I haven't already in a prior post) but RM is Mom to all three of us kids.... so she ain't 20! But she sure ran like she was in her 30's! I gotta give it up to her... she was within about 5 min Stuman. That is someone determined and in fairly good shape! And Sis has been working hard at it in order to beat Stuman! I know I would never had made it.

Anyways, I have no plans this week. Nothing on schedule for today. Y'all have a good one.

The Never Ending Day

Today is Sunday. The day of rest. I don't think I will be getting much. It is already 6:30am and I am up and awake. Even after going to bed after 12 and not getting to sleep til after 1 ... and I can't sleep now either. So, here I am.

Today we are headed out to Sis's place. We are sort of combining her and her son's birthdays (this is the middle between them both date-wise). There is supposed to be some Carna Asada on the grill, chips, and soda (tea is possibly being made for me). I am expecting Stuman to come up from "down South" as well. There is to be a special RACE EVENT today.

I am not sure how the actual full story goes, but the details are that Reverend Mother, Sis, and Stuman will be running the timed mile today. I am thinking they may want to do it before eating, but am not sure when they are planning it. Either way, the ladies felt that they could do the mile in under the time required for female Army personnel. Stuman has to run his in under the men's time. As Reverend Mother has pointed out to me, it isn't important about the time they actually finish it the race, bu that they are doing something healthy in trying it. For the past few weeks (months?) I know Sis and RM have been walking/jogging to prepare.

At one point I was encouraged to join in. I declined stating that I would be there at the finish line with the timer in one hand and a beer in the other. Today, that will be tea instead I think. Besides, I don't think we (and I mean more I than anything) need a heart attack and hospital trip today.

Alrighty, I am off to explore websites. Gotta get me some free samples of something today.
