Birthday Eve

I am tired this morning. I blame it on being up so late last night. Why didn't I go to bed earlier? A couple reasons....

First one is that the Daughter and family got into town and I got to see my Doodad. that was the most important one. The other reason was because about 6:45pm the middle Son busted our front window. Our front room has many boxes, etc. moved form the old house this last week, and he was trying to maneuver around one area, and bumped the window. I guess it mught have a harder bump, but then, the glas is single pane, and pretty old. Needless to say, it took like 4 hours to make the trip to Lowes, get supplies, and a sheet of plexiglass. Then the Middle Son, the Daughter, the SIL, all spent time trying to get it in the aluminum frame so the edging, seal, whatever could be pushed/adjusted back in place.

Needless to say, there is a couple spots that could use a dab more silicone this morning, but mostly looks like it is good. The other side of the window is the problem now. It is the "sliding" side. We had had to slide it open at one point, and now it doesn't want to slide shut completely, leaving a minute gap where it won't close. It is catching at some point in the middle where the sides of the middle meet. Not a good description, but I will have it fixed later today.

Other than that, it is my Birthday Eve. Have dinner out tonight, which I am looking forward too. The house will be empty by noon. The boys are going to the SIL's parents to play those crazy board games. The Wife and Daughter are going to a baby shower. That leaves me at home alone.I'll probably end up watching Netflix, or playing WoW.

Ugh....

Started off the weekend in a crappy way. About 5 miles from work, on my way home, I got rear-ended. I am fine, and so was the other driver. Most of the damage is cosmetic, except the back hatch is bent and won't open. I am hoping the frame isn't bent, but hard to tell as I am not a car specialist. It was drive-able home and I did not notice any particular noises or leakage before or after. This morning though was an adventure. The back is sore, and the base of my neck. The Wife gave me a nice back rub (physical therapist spouse) that helped quite a bit. Now am waiting for my claims rep to call, but with it being the weekend, it may not happen until Monday.

The water heater in the newer home will not keep the pilot light lit. There hasn't been hot water for a day plus now. I watched some videos on youtube, and see the low cost and easy way to replace thermo-couplers, etc. But found one really good one about cleaning the air filter area under the unit. With the Daughter and Doodad in town, the ladies are going shopping and will pick up the dust wand they video suggested (cheap one from a dollar store). Hope that works.

Work is crappy. The gal I worked with had her last day the previous Friday, so this was the first week without her. My work load has increased, to keep up with the normal work flow of the department because the new girl is crap. The boss asked me how I think it was working out, and I let him know even with 2.5 months of training, she still doesn't know the job. He was not happy with what I had to say, but it had to be said... especially because he asked. Still looking but no lock yet.

Guess that's about all I got for now.

My Cup Runneth Over

Literally. Well, more like the bucket in the kids' room, that is collecting the water from the drip coming from the ceiling. Yeah, another one.

A few years ago, the Wife decided to take on re-shingling the house on her own. She swore it would be easier and cheaper than hiring a company to do it. The roof was pretty bad, and we had to end up replacing several sheets of plywood as well. Need less to say, for a long time afterwards, we had a drip in the Family Room, dripping from the ceiling vent in that room. We were able to track down that it was a leak around one of the air vent thingies on the roof, and the Wife would go up and re-tar around it, hoping it fixed the problem. Only to find out the next time a decent rain came along (months at times in-between storms) that it hadn't fixed it. Finally, we seem to have that one fixed, and now this one comes along. Already I see the ceiling drywall cracking, and we have yet to begin looking for the source of the leak. I am thinking around the AC unit, as it is right above that area, basically.

Sometimes I am hating being a homeowner.

Needless to say, it is in the forecast to be rain all day today. Joy. People here don't seem to know how to drive in the rain. Going to be a long night on my route....
