Bad News - Good News

After writing the post on Monday, about how unwell Daisy had been, etc, she passed away that afternoon. The Wife was upset, as I had expected, but not as bad as it could have been. After all, we knew with her health that Daisy wasn't much longer for this mortal plane. Youngest dealt with it well, and helped me with Daisy's remains.

The house feels somewhat emptier without the dog here. I find myself looking at Daisy's preferred places to recline throughout the house, and seeing them empty. Yes, with three cats still  here, it does make a difference. I guess we won't have to worry about buying dog food now...

The Oldest Son came by today. We had texted yesterday about his car FINALLY being ready from the repair shop, that he confirmed this morning. So I went with him and drove it back to our house. This will become the Youngest's car, if he ever takes his permit test. We are compensating the Oldest a certain amount off what he owes us (from his newer car purchase). It was nice to catch up a little bit with him this morning - The Oldest that is. Plans are for him to come back over Monday (his day off) and we will go take care of the registration/title changes, so I will get to see him again soon.

It is only Wednesday, and already this week has been filled with good and bad news. Thursday is the 32nd anniversary for the Wife and I. We are celebrating on Saturday by taking a morning hot-air balloon ride. It is something the Wife has always wanted to do. I'm feeling some anxiety about the ride. Between a fear of falling, and bouts of vertigo, I am not sure how enjoyable it will be for me. I think I should be able to be okay as long as I am not leaning over the rail.... be too easy for the Wife to push me over anyways.

Prepping for Pain

Welcome to another Friday. Glad you made it.

Easter weekend is upon us. Another Christian pagan holiday commercialized (in my opinion). So, yes, we have to spend money for candy/gifts for the kids. Well, not I. The Wife will though. I don't do that crap.

Today I plan on starting a new routine of going to the gym. I did get in yesterday to start my membership. I went out and bought my ipod. It is loaded and ready to go. I am just waiting about another hour or so for the 'morning rush' of people to get done there and get off the road. Or at least out of my way.

So, a few weeks ago, I had gone out with the buds for awhile, and had a few beers. Well, I guess I let the Wife decide to get another damn pet. A co-worker (her last job) had some pups to get rid of, and there was one that was a bit of a runt (at least from what I vaguely recall) that had black & white colorings/markings to make it resemble a cow. I had said if no one else claimed that particular one, we could get it. I was under the influence. I think the Wife went and told her to hold it for her, or rather, if no one was encouraged to get it, we would. Needless to say, she calls me last night to say that the pup is ready to come home (weaned). I was like, I thought we decided not to get it. Then she twisted my memory to what suited her.

I still have Rusty, Spawn of Satan, the cat. Now I am adding a dog as well... a pup at that. I am sure it is going to piss and shit all over the fricking house. Of course, since I am here most of the day, who is going to have to take care of cleaning it up? Me. Who is going to do the vet trips, and all the other crap involved in taking care of a dog? Me. Plus, now we can't just be gone for a couple days with no worries, or someone to take care of the pup. I am not happy. I am sure that this aggression will get a bit worked out at the gym, and then just leave me feeling defeated. It's not that I don't like pets, I just don't think they are good idea right now. And I hate having to be the one to do all the care-taking, when it wasn't I that wanted the damn thing.

Either way, the Wife is heading to Petsmart after work to pick up some food and dishes for the pup. Who knows what else... probably a chew toy, or something. She mentioned a newer litterbox for the cat, that has higher/closed-in more type top so not so much an open invitation for puppy snacks. Then picking it up and bringing it home. No idea what the name will be yet.

Typical Monday

I have nothing for you today. My mind is fuzzy and I cannot seem to complete any normal thought. In fact, this is probably cut and pasted from a different post.

Kitten update - thanks for the couple suggestions so far. The kids have been working on a name all weekend. Meantime, the lil guy has probably quadrupled his weight since we found him (he was skin & bones - literally)! With the anti-biotics the vet gave me, he is clearing up all the cat cold symptoms he had as well.

That's all I got today. Come back tomorrow and maybe I'll share what I ate today.

Goin' ta play the Name Game

It's official now. We are keeping that spawn of Satan, the bringer of evil, the feline from hell. Gee, I make it sound bad, but only after spending $350 PLUS at the Vet, I guess I should be happy that the fucker should live - right?

HMPH! Either way, we now know it is a boy, about 5 weeks old, with a damn feline cold. So now it has 3 different meds for that, before we can even start the vac shots. The kids are excitied and are now trying to figure out a name.

So that brings out a little sporting in me. I will try to have a post up later today (Sat) with a pic of the beast. In comments, throw me your best name for the lil thing. By Wednesday, the family will consider all given suggestions plus our own and decide on a name.

If you win, you don't get anything but the satisfaction of a job well done.

And if you live close, maybe the first chance to shot at the damn thing if I decide to boot it out the door ... wait, that is supposed to be a joke. Notice I supposed to be.

I have two name considerations up already: Rusty (cus he's sorta rust colored) and DC (for Damn Cat).

The Spawn has arrived!

Yes, you may laugh at my trembling and shaking voice, but I truly tell you the Spawn has arrived! I thought the Wife had only found a defenseless little kitten that needed help - but NO!

I was reading over at Maeve's and this post proves it! She posted a pic of her feline, when in was in a smaller form, and I swear I have it's twin sitting just 5 feet behind me. Behind me? Maybe I better move the pet carrier.....

The Animal is amongst us

It's been about three months since I wrote about having to put our family dog, Spunky, to sleep due to old age and complications. In that period, not once have the kids mentioned anything about wanting another pet, or even hinted at a desire to have something. I think they seemed to enjoy the less responsibility of having to feed/water, let outside, etc.

Well we knew the party needed to end sometime, and that happened last night. The Wife had swung by the homestead prior to picking up the kids for the evening. There was a kitten in the middle of the road. Being the type of person she is, she went to get it out of the street (this is right in front of our home BTW). Then she realizes the kitten's eyes are matted shut with gunk, and it is skinny as all hell.

I was out at a party and the Wife calls me. "Honey, I was on the way home and found a kitten in the middle of the street."

I mentally frowned. I knew what this was leading towards. "Did you run it over?"

"No," she replied. "But it's eyes are matted close. Can't we help it?"

Of course from there it was over. She helped clean the gunk from it's eyes, and we set it in a pet carrier with some water and soft cat food for the night.

Today I spent several calls on the phone trying to find a cheap vet/clinic to see about getting it's eyes checked, plus all the vaccination/rabies shots and what not required. Best I found without driving across the valley is around $260 - for a damn kitten. Needless to say, we are going to discuss the issue tonight over dinner (about half an hour away).

(Sigh) Another animal to worry about that the kids are keeping up with taking care of it, and who to watch it if we are out of town. At least it doesn't need to be let out a few times a day. I dunno what to do at this point.

Soooo, that's the new stuff for now. Just another mouth to feed and expensive Dr. visits.
