Monday Came As No Suprise

Last week I had gotten an email from the Company, stating there is a project slated to start last Friday. Then a follow-up email, moving the start of said project to Monday (today). I had signed in/notified them through their process that I was available, but as of this morning there is no confirmation email. So I am guessing I was not selected, or was far enough down the line of those available, that I was not chosen for this project. They did state they have "several projects starting over the next few weeks"... so we will see.

I am not doing much today. Thanksgiving food getting is pretty much done and out at RM's. I do need to get some salad tomorrow, and also set aside the powdered sugar I need to take out there as well on Thursday. I need to get in touch with RM and see about deviled eggs. I completely forgot about them when we were planning the menu. I'll text her after finishing up here I guess. I just need to know if I need to get more eggs or what.

This week will be a slow one. Nothing on my calendar except Thursday dinner, and Saturday doing the 50/50 raffle at the VFW. Next week will be busier with several committee meetings going on as it is is the start of December. I have gotten a few presents ordered and here that I am giving, but need to sit with the Wife and decide what else, who else, ideas, and how to get for any we haven't. Usually at this point, I am going to the gift card displays at the stores and getting cards. At the local grocery preferably as it adds for fuel points (the Wife gets fuel at their station often).

Welp, my numbers are good this morning for glucose and BP. And since I got that out of the way, I need to go find me some breakfast.

Post Turkey Day Ramblings

It is officially Friday now, and has been for almost a whole hour. I can't sleep, so figured I would entertain you with how my Turkey Day went, with so few embellishments, you won't believe it truly did occur.

The day started with Wife, Youngest, and myself, leaving the house about 9am. We were going to grab some Wendy's for the road, but they were closed, so ended up at McD's. Traffic on the road wasn't terrible as far as number of drivers, but the there seemed a bit more than our usual Day-trip to Tucson. Quite a few were obvious impatient to get to their destinations, that there were several times expletives left my mouth. Overall we arrived safely, in the average amount of time it usually takes.

Dinner was mid-afternoon, and the SIL did one heck of a good job. He smoked one turkey, and deep-fried the other. Both came out very tasty! Sides included mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, candied yams, cheesy croissants, gravy, stuffing, giblet gravy, and smoked mac and cheese. I had a bit of everything, except the yams and stuffing (yuck) and could only manage to eat one plateful, though did get just a smidgen more of both turkey meats. A nice sized container of the giblet gravy came home with me. I know RM had asked me a couple days ago about if I needed/wanted the (if any) giblet gravy from their meal, and I said sure, but not sure if I need it now. Daughter made today's with the giblets of 2 turkeys, so there was quite a bit!! I think on Youngest and I ate any of it - those other people are just missing out and eating plain brown gravy....

Doodad was busy with two of her uncles for most of the time, as Oldest Son made it there awhile after we had arrived. Middle couldn't make it due to needing to rest as he had/has to work this night. The Wife and I ended up leaving around 8pm, so I wouldn't be driving overly tired (I must be getting old) so we left the Youngest there, as the Oldest Son said he would drive him home after they all played some games for a couple hours. Youngest just made it home about fifteen minutes ago. He has plans to spend the day with his girlfriend and some of her family for a second Turkey Day.

It was a good day, except for missing the Middle Son. Not sure where we are going to do Christmas at this year, but plan to figure out something soon. I'm sure it will be in the Valley so we all can make it to RM & PT's as our usual plans. I tried several times to get ideas for gifts for Christmas from the kids, but it didn't really work. I usually try to get one gift for each that I pick out, and Wife does the rest. I do have one for the Daughter, and I have a small ting for each of the boys and SIL. Still need to figure out the gift for Doodad from Papaw, as it is usually the best gift, and she just loves it!

Welp, still not tired. I think I might just hit up some sites real early for Black Friday specials and see if anything 'leaps' out at me for the kids and Doodad. Oh crap, and the Wife as she has a birthday coming up soon, as well as Christmas.... when it rains it pours....

Pre-Game for Turkey Day

That post title makes it sound like it is Wednesday, but it is not. But I am ready for Thursday to be here. Getting all the kids together is something I love to have happen. Although, as of right now, the Middle Son says he probably will not be there. He has to work the night before, and the night of (thanks Black Friday Sales) and would rather get some rest than drive to/from Tucson AND have to work with little sleep. I totally understand, but still sad. Though I just saw the Daughter and family, it will be nice to visit again. Doodad and Papaw have our Turkey Day help of making the deviled eggs.

Last week I had seen the doctor. This morning I got the call regarding the lab tests. A1C was good, cholesterol was a little high, but not worth changing the dosage on the med I take. They want to come back and give more blood for some liver testing, and base analysis says possible cirrhosis do to alcohol (duh, ya think). I suppose I might go in next week and do that. Doctor had also asked about the colonoscopy that I had not done yet. I explained what happened last time I tried to set an appointment, and so she got me a new referral. Well, that office called me last week at one point, though I was busy and did not take the call. I put it on my to-do list for today, but they called this morning, too. So now I have the consult for colonoscopy next week. Won't be long before the probe up the butt....

It's a bit short of noon here today, and I am bored outta my gourd already.

Turkey Day

Welcome to Thanksgiving Day, where food is abundantly served up, and I gain the first five pounds of the 30 I'll gain over the next two months. Okay, I joke a bit about the poundage I'll gain... more like 10 pounds, but still.

Speaking of birds, it is becoming a bit more of an emptier nest around here. The Middle son is pretty much moved out of the house now. He did stop back by last night for some smaller things they had not gotten the other day. We will be meeting up with them this afternoon to sit down to a meal. Since we have boxes of stuff (read "junk from the hoarding") filling the house, we are eating over at the boys' new apartment. I goes the Wife said we are cooking the turkey and the green bean casserole here, and they rest there. I was hoping to eat by 1-2, but now I feel it is going to be more like 3-4. Sigh. Tomorrow we will get to do the meal again as RM has invited us out to their place in the evening for another meal.

Looks like I will be working a few hours on Saturday. I got a late start yesterday, and only worked 7 hours. Then amidst all the adjusted hours for this holiday, there are only 7 hours available for tomorrow. So that leaves me at least 2 hours to make up to show 32 hours for the week. I figure if I can do 4-5 hours Saturday, that would get me a couple more, though I'll still be short of regular 40. Meh. Whatever.

I was hoping to sleep in a little this morning, and I did manage to stay in bed until about 7:30ish. The Wife's phone started to go off with message notifications about an hour before that. Here siblings (half in the Eastern Time Zone) love to chat it up, and the Wife doesn't turn the mute on that convo, so every few minutes, there would be noise. I just now looed at it ( I am in it, though mine is muted) and it literally is just nothing important. I could have used an extra hour or more.....

Enjoy your day, and the food!

Ohhhh, I'm So Full!!

What a nice Thanksgiving Day my household had yesterday. We spent the better part of the afternoon (well, the boys & I) at the MIL's for holiday lunch, followed by family chatter. The Wife and Daughter had gone over earlier in the day to help with the baking and kitchen stuff, plus help with FIL (has Parkinson's). I ate way too much, but I deserve it. By 6pm I was in bed having a power nap, and back up by 9 for maybe a couple hours, then back to bed for the night. That tryptophan (or whatever) that is in turkey sure made for some crazy dreams during the night!

This morning I woke the boys then met Reverend Mother and Preacher Tom at Denny's for breakfast - my treat. It was nice to have some conversation since we did not see them yesterday. From what they shared, it sounded like my side of the family had a good day of eating and games as well. RM gave each of the boys a Christmas ornament, though I am not sure if we will actually put up a tree this year. I know the Wife will want to, but the way Daisy, the Goat Dog (new nick for her), chews up anything and everything, I am thinking we may not have a tree for next year if we put it up. Bad enough Rusty, Spawn of Satan, gets into the tree, knocking ornaments and whatever else he can off of it.

No shopping today. I am sure I will get some done next week, once the masses have returned to the regular work hours. I didn't see any special deals from any stores for anything I wanted to purchase, so I am feeling I am not missing anything. From stories I am reading from friends on FB, I really am not missing the crowds. I have the last of the dishes soaking right now, and the boys are working on cleaning up their rooms. Not sure what we may do this afternoon - maybe just some computer time for each of them so I don't have to drive anywhere. I may end up curled with my Kindle.

Hope your Tday was good!

Where's That Delete Option?

Sometimes we all wish everything had that option. To be able to delete something we said, wrote, or did. Not even a rewind, but a delete. Just take it out of there completely and trash it. I don't want the chance to make the same thing happen if we were to rewind it.

Many instances from my life come up, where the delete option would have been great. Other times when rewind would have been nice. Yesterday's post is one I though about deleting. I should really learn to stay away from the computer when I have been imbibing. I tend to make absolutely no sense, and babble about nothing. But I think I am going to leave it there. If nothing else, to remind to stay away from the computer at certain times, or I'll do that again.

So it is Monday of the Turkey Day holiday week. Friends and family are setting plans to get together for the meal on the holiday. Afterwards, I am sure many of the guys will be watching football. Not I. We are planning this year to go to my MIL's for dinner. I believe a couple other siblings with their families will be there as well. They're family is not big on watching sports (Unless the Suns are playing - MIL's favorite team). I believe the Daughter is bringing her beau along, too. What will be nice, is they are only a few blocks from our place, so I don't have to drive any distance per se to arrive and go back home.

Either way, I am looking forward to turkey, and mashed potatoes, giblet gravy, and green beans. Though, I should be a good boy and not eat much. I haven't decided about that yet.

Tense Morning

Just short of 10am, and I am already feeling exhausted. I had my dentist appointment this morning. One of the two root canals, and crowns, that were done over a year ago, had started giving me problems. A blister-like anomaly was occurring on my gum. After some review of an x-ray done at my cleaning a couple weeks ago, the main though was that possibly some slight debris left in one of the canals, or even a micro-channel, was there that had been missed. It is supposedly causing a slight infection around the root, which when pressure from chewing, was causing the infection fluids to be pushed to the exterior gum area. At least that is the way I understood it in basic terms from the Dr.

Today, he was drilling into the tooth again, to re-check the canals for looseness, or missed 'debris', or whatever else may be the cause of it. I was worried and tense throughout the procedure, as they were not numbing me up. Even though he had reassured me that the tooth was nerveless since the root canal. I guess it is the pessimist in me, that if there was something there that was going to hurt, they would find it. Happily I admit that there was no pain or discomfort during the whole procedure. The bad news is, everything is good. Doc explained what all he was doing, and all the work was solid, with no signs of the cause. My shoulders and neck are a bit sore though from me being so tensed up, waiting for that bad moment, which never came.

Next treatment: waiting. Doc feels that the problem may actually be a fractured root on the tooth (but he is unable to confirm that with the x-rays they have). An endodontist has the capability to do a 3-D x-ray of the area, with better clarification, to verify if this is the exact problem. However, Doc says what is best for the immediate time, is to wait. Mainly to see if the blister-like formation occurs more often, if any pain or discomfort starts. So, some wasted time for me and Doc on this procedure this morning - only due to the results though. At least I wasn't charged for it. If nothing worse happens before my next cleaning in about 6 months, we'll take a look and see how things are/feel. If it is a bad root (or fractured) it means an extraction, which I hate to think about after going through a root canal and crown - and the costs of both.

Otherwise, things are going well. I will be calling Stuman up today I think, to get plans organized for this weekend. Nascar is in town, and he is taking me out to PIR (Phoenix International Raceway) for the race. I will be with him int he courtesy Military tent on the inside track, and we should be able to be fairly close to the cars in pit row before the race - for pics - and may even meet a couple drivers. Oh yeah, and free beer. I haven't been to the track for a race in a couple years or more. I last took my oldest son and it was his first time. Hoping to get to meet Jr. (my favorite driver) but know not to get my hopes up.

Looks like Turkey Day this year we will be spending it with the Wife's family up north somewhere. I have not heard who is hosting it this year, but I plan on making my cherry delight dessert to take as they always tease me about it when I don't. It's the first dessert to disappear each time I take it to the family dinners. The Daughter is planning on her boyfriend going this year as well, so he can meet some of the Wife's side of the family. Should end up a good time where he and I will be able to sit and attempt conversation. I am not of a conversationalist with him, mainly because I have no clue what to talk about - never have been good at that. Well, aside from possible threats to him if he hurts my daughter....

Okay, I should move on to other things for the day. I know I have a sink full of dishes that need to be done.
