No Sleeping In Today

The Wife's damn alarm went off this morning at 6:15am, as it does every day. Why she will not (cannot?) set the damn thing for M-F instead of everyday, I have no clue. Either way, I ended up laying in bed for about 15 minutes before deciding sleep would not be coming back to see me, and got up. Maybe it is for the better, seeing how my body might be adjusting to getting up earlier now that I am back to work (nice thought).

No major plans today. Summer has come to Arizona, and I expect it to be a bit over a 100 degrees today. No outside activities after 9am for sure. A friend that owns a pub is out of town this weekend, and has asked me to handle making sure there is change available to the wait staff. Simple thing like bundles of ones and fives in $100 amounts. I will be running over there at some point to do that (takes like five minutes) then I don't know. Maybe run to the Post for the afternoon. The Wife picked up more potted flowers yesterday, so I am sure as the sun starts to set, she will be out front planting them.

According to my book reading goal, I am at 90 books read, and 14 books ahead of schedule for the year. I did put up a couple more reviews yesterday from this last week, and as of right this moment, I only have one book to read (that needs a review). Which means I will be able to get back to my regular reading list fairly soon.

The Youngest mentioned that he would like to take his permit test today. It is online, so not too major of a deal. However, I did speak to him yesterday about it, and that the Wife will need to find out where she put his birth certificate for when he passes, so he can get the actual permit. If not I will have to order one, and not sure how long that may take. Guess I should look it up and try to figure it out. I just went and looked it up. They have an office not too far from home that I can go in person and receive it, so something to think about for Monday if the Wife can't find our original.

Mellow Weekend Outlook

Yesterday I went and completed the labs that needed to get done for the doctor. I am sure I will be hearing from her this next week in regards to the cholesterol counts, and if she is changing up the 'statin' pill I take for it currently. I also picked up the one changed prescription to one of the diabetes pills I take. Another little trip and dropped off the handicap placard application, received a temporary one, as the 6-month one will be mailed to me. Then I went and had some Taco Bell. Not my favorite place to eat, but wanted something quick and not a burger - I had been fasting all morning, and it was nearly 2pm by this point. After a couple days of not taking my meds (makes me sound crazy, huh?) This morning's counts were actually not bad. With the upped med , I'm curious what will become a more regular glucose count....

Nothing planned out for this weekend. I know there are always things to get done around the house, but no major events are planned. I may get out to the Post today, as I haven't been for a couple weeks. The Youngest had texted me yesterday that he does have to attend and play at the graduation ceremony. He was not thrilled, as he thought he was done for the year.

Nothing of any importance that feels like being shared today. I should write up those reviews I have been putting off. Maybe I will feel motivated once I am done here.

Ending The Week ...

It is a very early Saturday morning, only because I had a late nap today, and slept longer than the 30 minutes I expected. Just means I am not tired as I should be right now. But that is okay. I've popped a couple sleep pills and hopefully within the hour I will be more likely to get to sleep - if they work.

The Oldest Son came over the other day, and we did get the title transferred, registration, and plates ordered for the car. I just need to get a couple license plate screws and it is road ready. I did ask the Youngest tonight about when he wants to do the online permit test, and 'I don't know' was the answer I got. Sigh. Trying to motivate this kid to get some driving skill is near impossible. The Oldest Son and I made plans for the 21st for a birthday dinner for him (his falls earlier in the week). I already have his present from us - a very nice set of floor/cargo mats for his Rav4 since they did not come with them. He already knows what he is getting, just not how good the quality is of the product. Better be damn good for what I paid for it. He also ran me over to Walgreens, as they had started texting me my prescriptions were ready. But, when I got there, two of the meds weren't on their list (but she found them and would have them ready next day) and they had a hold on the lancets awaiting doctor approval. I told I didn't care about them (I have literally 400 at home, and only use 1/day). So I should go pick the remaining things up tomorrow, run to Autozone for the screws, and Fry's, just because I want to get some soda for at home.

The Wife says we have nothing planned for this weekend, or anything major that needs to be accomplished, so it will be a slow time for us. After doing that little bit of running around, I'll probably end up on the computer playing games or something. I did finish three books this last week, and have a couple more currently to read to do reviews on. Maybe get some of those out of the way.

Some Sleeping In

I got to bed late last night. Well, late for me. I got involved in reading a book on my Kindle (I should get paid from Amazon for as much mentioning of the Kindle I do) and stayed up until after midnight. Yes, the book (for me) was that interesting. In case you were wondering, it was book 1 of the Soldier Sons trilogy by Rbin Hobbs. Yeah, Fantasy Fiction, but that is what I like. Either way, I planned to sleep in a bit. The Wife had set the alarm for 8am, but is notorious for hitting the snooze at least 2-3 times. Nope. At 7:15am I am awake and unable to get back to sleep. So I arose from bed, and started my day. I will admit that it was nice to have a bit of a quiet house, and enjoy that cup of coffee with no one making loud noises (read, the kids).

I checked with the Wife once she actually roused from her slumber. I would say beauty sleep, but if she ever read that here, which I doubt will ever happen, she would not be happy. We have no set plans for this weekend, so it is going to be the basic 'clean up around the house' etc time. Though, I conveniently remembered I was invited over to some bocce ball at a friend's house this afternoon. I mentioned it, and she said she had no problem if I went. Ahhh, finally! A chance to have a beer!

So, aside from that, this weekend is going to just be a normal one. Maybe play some WoW, maybe not.

Have you got any plans?

Another year has gone by....

Today my middle son turns 7 years old. As a parent, you see your kids growing seemingly so fast before your eyes. He has become a great young man for his age, and simply thrives on showing his affection amongst family. Now if only I can raise him correctly to have solid ideals about everything....

... that brings to the oldest, my daughter. In about 15 minutes we are off to McDonalds to have a sit down discussion about her interpretation of permission, and how we can resolve things to make it less stressful all the way around. She had come home last night from a date only an hour late - after I even called her on the phone. Yeah, Dad wasn't happy. Mom wasn't happy. And now - because I told her last night we would be discussing punishment this weekend, she is taking the "I hate you and everybody hates me - I am moving out when I am 18" trash talk. Oh didn't I mention the yelling at every one and the tears?

(sigh)

I am still trying to figure where I went wrong in raising this one. I am sure everyone has a finger to point me int he direction of my error, and I am trying my patient best (and I am not a patient person) to at least remedy the situation if not fully correct it. Too little too late probably, but I got to try something. The Wife and I are both tired of this all. At least she graduates next summer and is striving to get to UofA that next fall.

Today though, is a good day. Concentrate on the son's birthday. He will be opening his presents and such tonight whenever The Wife gets home from work. Fridays she has to work late enough that it makes it hard to do a family dinner out, so we moved the event to tomorrow. He has decided on a pizza place that has the games/tokens thing going on. Now I have to figure out when to do that so the daughter can be there, as she has a bday party for a friend's baby (yes, young mother) also. Plus, a bunch of my high school alumni are doing a large get together tomorrow night I would like to attend. I have a feeling I am not going to make it.

(sigh)

The things parents give up for their children. Too bad this is only a lesson learned. Would have been nice to know maybe ahead of the whole being a parent thing. Not that I would change it, just would like to have known about it ahead of time. Or maybe I knew it, but just didn't pay attention. That is more like it.

Enough of this today. I am off to have the discussion, then picking the boys up and headed to the Sis's house for all the cousins to play together for the afternoon.

Mommy is back! Yea!!

I never thought I would be so happy to see my wife again. I mean, it almost brought tears of joy and happiness to my eyes at the airport as I watched her coming down the walkway. The kids were excited she was back too, and I have every guess as to why. No one likes Daddy in a bad mood.

Friday night started off well. The 'Men' went to Lonestar for steak dinners. Leftovers were taken home - picked up the daughter from theater in time. Everything went ok. Saturday I was up early for a gym class, then took the kids to Denny's for breakfast. We went to the bank, got gas, went to Wal-mart and did some shopping. Followed that up with a trip to the used book store, where I turned my daughter onto Dean Koontz (she has problems putting down "Fear the Night"). Lunch soon followed at Dairy Queen before we finally made it back home to rest for a couple hours. Ran the daughter to school for theater, and went back home. Back to pick her up about 8:30 and then home for the evening.

Sunday was a busy day. I woke everyone at 7:15 and headed for the ballpark. A quick stop at McD's for breakfast, then we were at the park for a double header softball game. The kids behaved well there and things were going pretty good. After the park I took the boys to church for play practice and then we followed that with lunch at Top Shelf - a Mexican type restaurant. After lunch we went home. I was tired, worn out, and ready for a nap. About mid-afternoon, the oldest boy comes in and timidly wakes me up.

"What's up Bud?" I ask him.
"Dad, we were playing in my room and I was tossing the ball up on my bed when brother hit it with his pillow and it broke the window." Instinctively, he winces back.
"YOU WHAT?!? Broke a damn window?!?!?" Now I am awake and following him back to his room.
"Dad it was an accident."
"How could it be an accident if you aren't supposed to be throwing the ball in the house anyways? Now be quiet for a minute."

I surveyed the damage. Of course. It had the be non-regular sized window. ::sigh:: I gave up and called the Wife. She was at the gate waiting her flight home, so I explained what to expect when she got home. I told her it was safe. I was refraining from anger until she got home.

The kids walked, sat, and did everything else on eggshells that afternoon/evening, especially when we headed to the airport. The Wife was going to see if her father could run it up to the Home Depot and get glass cut for it today. I hope it gets done - I have no clue how to do that stuff.

So it is off to the gym tonight after all that eating out this week. Though I did take it easy, and did not overdue it. Still I think I could stand a couple more pounds off especially this being Turkeyday week. At least I only work 3 days this week.

Okay I am out of here for now. Got some checks to turn in so I can get paid later.

SUNDAY, SUNDAY, SUNDAY!!!

This is the big race weekend here in the Valley. PIR is hosting the NASCAR race and yours truly is doing his damnedest to get a fricking ticket to go. Last weekend, my favorite bartender said she was going to have extra tickets and offered me one, but as of yesterday, they had not come through. So I am hoping to hear later today. If it falls through, I guess I won't be going to the race, but oh well. I haven't been to a race in over 13 years anyways.

Meanwhile, today is Friday, and I hope to get out of the office a bit earlier than normal. My desk has been slow, and I don't see why I shouldn't leave early. I am not hourly or salaried after all. I wonder what the chances are of that happening...

I finished my gym requirements for the week. With the weekend as busy as it is, I am thinking I may need to get in late Saturday for a half hour workout or something. I know at the race I would be drinking some brews, and possibly tonight. Monday is my weigh-in for the week. I don;t want to be over a lot. Some is okay, as I am starting to notice some muscle mass gain in my arms. Hopefully I will have lost some more in the waist as well.

Saturday we are attending the State Marching Band competition being held in Mesa (across the Valley from me) for my daughter. The band is to perform around noon, so it is going to be some beautiful weather. High of about 80 they are saying. I wonder how crowded it will be. I totally dislike large crowds - shit, I didn't even think about crowd at the race. You know that will be huge. ::sigh::

Oh well. It seems if you want to enjoy something anymore you have to give something up to do it. Y'all have a good one, and hope to see ya back here Monday for another boring installment. Maybe I will have some boobie pics from the race... now there's an idea!

Weekend Recap

As I stated before, it wasn't that big of a weekend for me. Friday night I did the regular bar thing. Saturday the Wife let me sleep in until 11:30'ish, where we then had brunch. The daughter went to a friend's house, and the oldest son & I went shopping. We were combining my son's, nephew's, and niece's b-day celebrations into one on Monday. We got the nephew a gift card for the video game store. The niece got a gift card for some girls clothing outlet.

When the son & I went into this girl store (Justice by name) immediately my sons hands went to above his eyes and the whole 15 minutes in line, he stared at his shoes. As we were leaving, I asked him why was he looking down - weren't there some pretty girls in there. I got the glare, and he said "Dad, I was staring at my feet the whole time. I didn't see any girls." Didn't you like the frilly clothing they had there? "Dad, I wasn't looking." I told him that his age, I didn't admit I liked girls either, and soon his thoughts would change. Again I got a glare.

Sunday we were invited out to do the swimming, BBQ, and poker thing. My wife decided she did not want to go, and wasn't thrilled about me going - knowing I would be drinking. I told her that they said they had room for those that needed to stay the night, but the wife didn't really like that idea either. So I ended up not going. She instead took the kids and went to a friends house to go swimming, with confused me since she just turned down the other party. So I gave up and went to the bar to watch Nascar, and the Indy. I took a book and did some reading after the races, and made it home around 10'ish.

Monday we all slept in and then went to my sister's about 2pm. Did the swimming and BBQ thing, then went home about 8. Kids still have school a couple of days this week. Next week they will all (including the wife) be gone to camp for the week. I will be the Bachelor. I like that week of the year...I get to have all the ass-burning foods I want, without having to be told to sleep on the couch, etc. Yeah... good stuff!!

Welp, I am all caught up at my desk, and still only half the day is gone. I guess I am off to read my book. So, until next time ...

A Moment of Silence

This weekend is Memorial Day weekend (duh!) and like many other people, I am taking a brief moment to remind everyone what our country has been able to become thanks to our veterans.

A brief moment of silence for them.

Now the rest of the weekend for many familes I hear is geting together with loved ones, friends, etc. Which is pretty much what I am doing. Saturday will be spent getting stuff together. Sunday the family has been invited over to a friends to swim, bbq, and eventually get a poker game going. Monday will be the big day. I get up early and head over to the Veterans Cemetary here in Phoenix. I meet up with a couple other guys and we visit my pal Big Mike. We each bring a six pack, and Mike always drinks faster than us. Then in the afternoon will be headed to my sister's for the big family thingy.

Sounds simple, but I am sure I will wish I had Tuesday off to catch up. I know I will be schnookered on Monday, to deal with my siblings....lol.

I am out for the weekend. May yours be pleasant. And remember. Click it or Ticket.

Oh well, let's test our memory

Since I can't find that damn list, I'll just recap somethings of my weekend and see if any of it jogs the memory cells.

Friday the older kids stayed over at Grandma's with their cousins. No. 3 went home with me and we spent the evening with home made salsa and chips, and watched "Bionicle 2" until we both passed out on the couch. Saturday I dropped him off about noon at Grandma's then headed to the hospital. Discharge was in progress but had to wait for the breathing machine. That took forever. I then went out to Jimbo's and then over the Vinnie & Joeys for some karaoke. Sunday we did a scrimmage game against one of the teams on the league. After 9 innings (we usually time limit or 5 innings) we ended up tied with them. Our new couch was trying some different strategies for the upcoming season. I had brought the older boys with me so Wife could rest, so we went home pretty quick. Then I headed out to watch the race. Of course I had Martin in the pool, so I didn't win. I ended up going home about 8 I think it was. I ordered pizza for the family and had a few pieces before I was ready to pass out for the night.

Nope, nothing really got jogged there. There was one moment where Jeff (wow! He was actually at Bullocks on a Sunday!) was trying to wrestle me or something. I wobbled, but wouldn't go down, sort of like a weeble-wobble. That lasted a whole 2-3 minutes. I forget why he was doing that though.

So now it is Monday, and my work day is almost through. I am contemplating returning to Bullocks as they have steak dinner on Mondays, but I am in the mood to read. If I end up there, I may not get the chance to read. Decisions, Decisions. In the meantime, I'll try to find something more interesting... you be good!
