Weekly Update

Welcome to 2:50am and another post that just leaves you wondering why you even bother coming here to read my drivel. Well, except for RM. I know she comes here to find out what is going on in my life, since I'm the bad sona nd don't call  or visit as much as I should. Speaking of, I may try to get out there this week. I picked up something I thought RM might like, but then she may not like as well. Will have to wait and see. Now I know you will be waiting in anticipation for a visit from me, RM.

Not much going on this weekend here around the house. Last week we had had a good windstorm preceding some rain, and it blew off one of the attic vent turbines on the roof. Middle son came over yesterday and climbed up there to see if he could fix it. Nope. So at some point here soon I will need to go to Lowe's or Home Depot to find an updated version of the vent. I say updated, as a video I saw shoed this newer type, that can easily replace the type I have up there now, without actually pulling shingles and the whole assembly out to replace. He said as of now, it sits on the vent, but won't spin. At least it will keep birds/cats/rain out of the venting to the attic for now.

Last week was a pretty good week for me getting some ARCs fo books I have been wanting to read. I got through a couple last week, and have a couple to get to this week. I love getting the books ahead before they reach the market. I may not be good about writing a review for it, but it is what it is. You know I don't try to "puff up" anything, even if I like it. The next three months show about at least 3-4 books each month I am looking for to be out. So I might be able to swing in a few others I have had sitting in my library for awhile. I think it was a couple weeks ago, I went through my ebook library and deleted many I had have there for some time. I read many plot descriptions, and at times wondered why I even held on to that book/series. So there was a "bit" of them that got deleted out.

Work will continue on Monday. I might have mentioned that they estimate this project going until Wednesday. Which means I expect it to dry up on Tuesday, after maybe a half day of work. Not sure how fast they will be able to move me into another project. That may give me the time to swing out to RM's. I read she has something for me as well, though, she may want to hold onto it until Christmas. Saves a bit more on shopping. Hmmm, maybe I should do the same. I dunno. Sometimes I just don't like to wait.

Welp, I guess I will close this off and ramble off to do something else.

A Sleepless Day Off

Saturday mornings are generally considered one of the days of the week I am not working, and have the opportunity to sleep in. Most of them I do, since I usually go out with friends the night before, and stay out too late. Last night I stayed home though, and was in bed at my "usual" hour. Then awake at 3:30am this morning. I was able to nap for about another hour, before I decided it was a waste of time, and got up. A quick run to the QT to get cigarettes (and a couple rollers and drinks) and here I sit, going through the morning routine.

No update on a new project for work. If it runs the normal gamut, it will eb late Sunday, or early Monday morning before I hear anything.

The oldest Son texted me yesterday, upset about our DMV. We had helped him get a newer vehicle a short while back. At the beginning of the month, DMV had emailed him the registration amount, etc. He made the payment online to them. Mind you, this is for his plates and registration. Evidently, somehow the payment didn't go through (not due to lack of finances, but some other glitch) and he called yesterday to follow up about not receiving the updated sticker and the plates. Seems the payment never processed, and no one contacted him, so he wanted to correct it right then on the phone, but they would not let him. The excuse was the people that do phone payments leave at 5pm, though the phone lines are open until 6pm. Needless to say, he was frustrated, and concerned about driving his car with the expired dealer paper in place of the actual license plate and current registration. I told him he was okay to drive, and if for whatever reason was pulled over, just explain it to the officer. They understand sometimes it takes a little longer to get your plates on a new(er) vehicle. Either way he was a bit miffed. Can't say I blame him.

No idea what plans are for today. Might take a nap later being up so early today. Then again, I may not and sleep better tonight. Hope to hear something on the sale of the house soon. Sis and BIL have not said much of anything, and it is less than 2 weeks to contract end. Hope they don't screw me over. If they do, I know I will never hear the end of it from my Wife, and it will just ruin what little relationship I have left with Sis.

Well, enough negative thoughts this morning. I'm going to see what I can find to watch on Netflix.

The Recap ... of Nothing

Not much to say abot anything that happened this weekend. We didn't make it out to look at fence panels. Friday evening, I had the Wife give me a ride up to the pub, and on the way we discussed it. The neighbor's house on that side has been empty for a couple years. She, or her daughter come by every few months and "check on" the property, but mostly it just sits vacant. There have been a couple times we have seen homeless trying to set up in the backyard. She has asked us to call the police if it happened again, but to my recollection it hasn't. Anyways, I guess she had been by earlier in the week, but after the storm. She had lost a tree in the backyard, and noticed that we had very temporarily gotten that part of the fence back up. She spoke to the Wife about block fencing. The Wife shared with me, and I am all for it. This fence is quite aged and weathered, and who knows when the next storm will come through and knock the rest of it down. I don't have the physical ability to get out there and set fence posts and panels.... and financially, we could afford to split the cost of aa block fence along that property side. The Wife will be talking to the neighbor I am sure sometime this week.

The oldest Son came by yesterday! Of course, it was to do his laundry, but still he came by! The laundry facilities at their apartment complex are expensive, as I am sure they are pretty much everywhere nowadays. The middle Son, that shares the apartment, hasn't been by to do laundry in a long time, so would not be surprised to see him be over some day soon as well. But it was good to visit with the older Son. He has plans to meet up with his girlfriend and maybe do a pic-a-nic lunch, then be by here again to pick up the last load of laundry he had left.

Spent part of yesterday watching "Bloodshot", with Vin Diesel. I wasn't impressed. It was one of those comic-book type movies. Then I spent some time playing Warcraft. Later in the evening I ended up on FB and watching videos, which led to YouTube and more time wasted. And I spent all day sneezing and wiping my watering eyes. For some reason, my allergies were just terrible, and I already feel them starting up again today. Which means I won't be trying to go to church. I am sure no one wants to hear someone sneezing and blowing their nose, and wearing a mask while dealing with it? I don't think so.

The title company reached out to me and finally asked for the payoff and an Identity statement for the sale of the old house. I wondered what had taken so long, but glad it is here finally. I'll print those off today, and scan/send them back. Sis said something the other day in a text that the "rehab" that is going on there is almost done. In theory, the contract reads until the end of this month basically, but I do hope we can sell this before then and close. I just want to be disconnected from it.

A Saturday Post

I voted today. I finally was able to sit down and complete my mail-in ballot. It has sat here on my desk for the last week or so, with the pamphlets about the props up for vote as well. Took me about two hours, but I feel confident in my choices, since I spent the time to read all the information on the props, and looked up candidates for many other positions. How did I vote? I already told you - mail-in ballot. I'll drop it off at th post office later today. The Wife will wait until the last minute to complete hers, and will have tio drop it off at our voting location the day of, I am sure.....

I guess RM was a bit "butt hurt" about the notion of the Wife wanting to go through another realtor option than my sister. At least, that's the way I read it from her blog. So, RM, let me clarify for you.... We ARE going to another realtor/company, as we want a second opinion. WE want to get as much as we can out of the sale of OUR home. No, my cousin is NOT my concern. He is an adult, and therefore needs to take care of himself. Depending on the better offer for our home, we will go that route. I talked to Sis about this yesterday, and she agrees completely with me.

I feel a bit better now. That has been sitting on my chest most of this week. I did talk to my sister about the contract offer they gave me... and she did agree that we should get another opinion, I also agreed to allow them to counter-offer if the second opinion came in higher. It's all about the Benjamins to me....

Thinking dinner out tonight... not sure where...

Pulling a Late Night

Things too good to be true: getting a good night's sleep, as it ruins the next night when you try to go to bed. I went to bed around 9-10, and I did my usual little bit of reading. Then I tossed/turned for around 40 minutes. Finally out in my ear buds and played some mellow music from my tablet for the next hour. By midnight, I was no where close to falling asleep, even though I felt mentally drained. I'm thinking about just giving up and going to the store to buy some Ambien, or other sleep aid, then forcing myself to take one every night - unless I been drinking. those nights I seem to relax quickly into sleep. Must be the alcohol.

Not much went on today. The Daughter and Doodad are still in town until at least tomorrow - not sure how long they were thinking of staying. According to the Daughter there is only a couple loads (back of van) in the old house. Maybe it will be done this week and I can call WeButUglyHouses or something. I know my Sis and BIL had ran comps, and were possibly interested in it to fic and re-sale, but the Wife is not happy about that idea. I'm sure it has to do with things that has gone on before... I am not expanding on it here.

It's around 1am now, and I am trying to figure out what to do to get sleepy. I've tried watching some shorter videos. Maybe I should try a movie on Netflix or Disney+. I honestly do not know what I am going to do.. just knowing that I feel so tired and not able to sleep, makes me feel angry. Maybe I should do a couple hot toddies each night before bed....

Anger Issues

I had to remove my post from the other day. As I went back to review it this morning, I realized I wrote it when I was quite angry. I've noticed I have done this a number of times over the years, removing a post written in anger. It isn't so much that it embarrasses me, I just seem to realize afterwards that all it really does is makes me feel better getting it off my chest.

Either way the rest of the weekend went fine. I actually was not feeling well. I don't know if it was something I ate, or a "stomach bug", but was just feeling blah, and had some of the most atrocious gas. Even the Wife, who has still not recovered her sense of smell from COVID, says it was worse than normal...and more frequent. So far this morning, I am still sort of waking up, but feel marginally better.

I actually got about seven hours of sleep last night. Maybe feeling a bit under the weather has helped. I know I slept in yesterday, and then even had a 2-3 hour nap in the afternoon. By 9pm I was ready for bed. I read until 10, then slept pretty much straight through until about 5 this morning. Best sleep I have had without the aid of alcohol.

The Daughter and Doodad are expected up today. I guess they are coming up for a couple days to help the Wife finish getting out whatever crap she still wants from the old house. I was hoping to be done with it all last week, but that has not happened, obviously. Maybe this week. No updates on jobs for me. I have started looking into other jobs since nothing has come up recently at the one employer.

Halloween is coming up soon. My kids are old enough that trick or treating is out. In past years, because we would not be home, we never passed out candy. I have no idea what the Wife may want to do this year. Sit out front with a bowlful and pass them out id any come by? Supposedly there are restrictions about being out and about for the "traditions".

Thanksgiving is after that, and I really am lost as to what we will do. Last year we went to the Daughter's and had a good day. Perhaps this year we will do the same. Not sure how it will be since two of the boys have odd working schedules, and may not be able to attend, even if it were in town versus out of town. Part of them all growing up I suppose.

Still need to get out and do some vehicle shopping for the Wife. I haven't pushed it as the weather is still warm, even if it below 100 most days now. Between that and the crap at the old house.... Once we get that sold, I also will be looking for a vehicle, though I already have in mind a couple ideas for me.
