Not A Lot Today ...

I took an edible last night, and boy did I sleep good! That being said, not much to enlighten you with today....

Yesterday had some phone calls. It seems I have all the doctor appointments set for whatever procedure/bloodwork/consult needed for the next little bit. The first is this Monday, with a General Surgery consult re: the umbilical hernia. Excluding them setting a surgery date, or further appointments, then nothing for a month. It is irritating a bit to see the medical process run so slowly (yet they want my money so fast). I'm still trying to find out what is actually wrong and to what degree. The best I can narrow it down to, is the liver, as the Kidney doc says everything seems to fine there.

Today I am spending the afternoon (and probably part of the evening) at the Post. At home, I don't have the table-room to spread stuff out to work on it, so am headed there to use their longer 8-ft tables. For what? Oh, I finally got the Post Bylaws, and there is quite a bit that may need re-worded or amended into the House Committee policy. I have to spread out both documents, and compare, note, decide what needs changing. Sigh. Sometimes the way things are worded, I feel like I have to be a lawyer to interpret, understand, and properly translate. I figure it is going to be a hair-pulling day. But I do hope to have this all ready for Tuesday's House meeting, and get it voted on and out of my hands.

Welp, I guess I better get started on the day ....

Frustrated and Flustered - But Enough About Me

Yesterday was a day that God sent my my Wife to test my patience and love. And my will power. The Wife was off work due to low census (not as many patients to see) and with needing to take care of stuff relating to the accident, she agreed. The day started off fine, I guess. I got up and was working through my morning routine, and started watching a movie. The Wife comes in and says she needs to go get her rental car. So off to Enterprise we go, and thankfully they are close to our house. Well, this was step one for me. Turns out they only have mid-size and larger, so it ends up costing us $5.00/day over what the insurance will pay (30 days x $5.00 = $150 out of pocket). I'm a little ticked about that - a ploy to get more money out of you, least that's how I feel about it.

Go back home and sit down to watch my movie once again. Now the Wife comes in and says she has to do some running around: see here PCP office for her Shingles vaccine shot, and she's been griping about getting her AZ Travelers license - you know, the one that has a star on it (really - that's the only difference) that allows one to fly from AZ. We had spent time and gotten her birth certificate awhile back, and since she was off, she wanted to get it done. So she is asking where does she go to do it and what does she need. Sigh. Go to the DMV, or one of their affiliated satellite places. Take your birth cert, one of the residential bills that has your name on it, and at the DMV it is like $79, not sure at the other places. So I get that paperwork together for her, and off she goes.

I finish my movie, and being tired of sitting here, I head up to the pub for a little reading time and water. The Wife calls. Well, they need two forms of proof of residency. I explained for her to go back home, on my desk was the stack of bills (paid thankfully) and to grab another one that has her name it, and go back. I swear, I am talking to a Kindergartner at this point. End of phone call. A little bit of time goes by, and she calls back.

Seems a repair shop called her, stated they were picking up her vehicle from the impound lot and taking it to their shop. But they needed her to come in and sign a form allowing them to look the vehicle over, and write-up an estimation for repairs to provide for the insurance company. Huh? With my accident, I never had to do that... So I called it quits on reading. Debated (seriously) about doing a shot of whiskey before I left, because I am getting frustrated that the Wife can't seem to figure out/do this on her own (as I would have had to if it were me - oh wait, I have had to do that). I go home pick her up, make sure I grab the envelope I have with the title, registration, and insurance card, plus my journal book I carry to make notes in. We have to drive over to Glendale (not terribly far) and go through downtown Glendale, which I hate: 25 mph, stoplight literally every block for like 8 blocks. No turn lanes, so you stop traffic to make a left. We get to this shop, and look over the form. I okay her to sign it. Once they get the figures to the Insurance, the Ins. will decide if it is totaled or repairable. I let them know I had left the second key in the car the day before when I cleaned it out. They double-asked if we had anything personal in it we need, I told them again, that all is in there now is trash (and a lot of it - the Wife did not do a good job of keeping her car clean).

So now I am a bit embarrassed at my Wife lack of skills in keeping the interior of her car clean (or at least not looking like the City Dump), frustrated I had to drive to this shop just to have a paper signed, I was already irritated from this morning with all the interruptions to my movie, and now, on the drive back home, the Wife starts in "Sorry I'm just a girl that doesn't know how to do anything for herself in this situation." I responded that I never once said that, nor implied that at any time. She mentions that she can tell I am a bit angry about things, and I admitted it. It is frustrating all the way around. This is different than my accident experience. My car was totaled almost immediately, because it had been t-boned, and flipped. Hers was more just front-end damage, maybe the frame isn't tweaked, and as long as there isn't extensive damage underneath from the impound lot using a fork lift to move it, it might be repairable. Which I thought she wanted. She had griped Sunday, that the vehicle depreciation value, she would have to get a "junker" now.

Eye roll. See how I feel now? Sigh. At least she is back to work today, and I don't have to drive her to/from. Maybe a week and a few days to hear from the insurance on the vehicle status. Life can get back to my normal (not saying a lot).

I need to call that Liver Specialist's office today. I have not heard from them to set an appointment. Yesterday the Kidney doctor's office called and said all the tests they ran last week have come back completely normal. But I still need to do them again in November. My PCP office called, said they received the information about my upcoming Endoscopy (Dec 3rd) and my PCP needs to 'clear me' for it, so I have a PCP appointment the 17th (or 19th? it is written down somewhere). Also the PCP turned out the referral for a General Surgery place about the umbilical hernia I have, so I suppose I shall wait a few days and see when/if they call.

Yesterday, I finally got the email from our Post Adjutant that had a copy of the Post Bylaws. He had mentioned to me a couple weeks ago, that since the House Committee (of which I am Secretary) was doing an Amendment to the their policy, that was some verbiage that could be changed relating from the Bylaws. So I printed and read them last night. Sigh. I am not a lawyer, and this stuff reads like legal paperwork. I see some stuff that probably should go into the House Policy, but will have to sit down at a large table and literally go side-by-side with these two documents to determine what needs to be changed, where it needs to be changed, and is it just re-worded, or actually a change. All this over one small change the House Comm wanted, just to exclude them having to participate every month in the inventory, as they want Auxiliary or General members to do it. Lazy asses. You volunteered to be on the committee, now do your job as a member. It all ain't just sitting there and saying yes/no to a vote. Besides, I am STILL trying to keep the Aux out of all this, as there is no need to mix the Aux into Post business. It just isn't really done. Yes, we mutually work together, but not being written into Post policy (or Aux policy for that matter). Sigh.

And while I am going off on my frustrations... VFW Rider Director ... enough said. This guy is literally going to make me lose it and tell him what I think about how he is trying to do this by just making decisions because that's the way he wants it to be. No, these are things the group is to vote on. No wonder the members are not attending meetings. I don't think we want to re-elect him for next year, but who else is going to step up? Sigh.

I just looked at my actual blog page just now. Seems my Goodreads tracker is not working so well. It says 126 books read of my yearly goal of 250. It should read 231. Are these places just making lousy widgets now?

Remember a few days back that I posted that this was going to be like a vacation week for me?

It's Almost Here!

Here it is the 2nd of September already, and just days away from my birthday. I still have no clue of how many will be stopping by on Saturday, as I pretty much invited all the "friends" on FB, plus several others via phone. I know most being family back in Indiana, or other places, will not be here. I know I have one out of town friend that said she will be here (as she does every year) and that's my Ginny.

Tonight is also the 1st Tuesday of the month, so I have the Entertainment Committee meeting, the NYE Party Council, and the VFW House Committee meetings tonight. The first two aren't hard - I really don't do much, but help confirm calendar dates for conflicts (set-up, raffles, etc.) and maybe ask a question or two. The House, boy. Last night I was up at the Post, and was speaking to A, another House member, and he had a bunch of issues he wanted to bring up at the meeting. Most of which, has to do with revising/amending the House Comm. Policy. But it is all over the place, and not just specific to what I am already to work on. Sigh. I hope he doesn't get his notes in order for tonight.

Next Thursday (9/11) I am sure the Post will do a flag ceremony, and bell rings at the time of the attacks. We had discussed it last month at our House meeting, but no feedback was given. Guess I will force the issue tonight. On 9/12 is the VFWRG Monthly dinner, so we are serving the classic hamburgers/2 hot dogs, smoked baked beans, and a homemade dessert. I asked RM to make the dessert this month, as she had mentioned a couple months ago, she would be willing to help out where needed, since this is a group I am actively involved in. I also feel it gives her a goal/need to do what she does best: cook, and give. Thanks in advance Mom!

Yeah, I still have a meeting next Tuesday (Aux) and the following Tuesday (VFWRG - which I still need to create the agenda for) before the meetings are done this month. Oh, I forgot, on 9/21 (Sunday) the VFWRG is sponsoring breakfast 9a-11a, followed with 'Harley Races' at noon. Don't ask about the races. I think they said some places call them frog races. I find it boring. Other than all that above, my month is actually fairly free.

To be fair, you probably won't hear from me now until Tuesday of next week....lol. Saturday is going to be fun!

Too Early Again

I woke again in the wee hours of the morning. When I finally decided that tossing/turning and not sleeping was enough, it was 3am on the nose. And my stomach was rumbling. I hadn't had supper the night before, as I just wasn't hungry, but the body was letting me know it wanted something NOW! So I dressed and "snuck out of the house" to the corner Quik Trip. A large soda (I know, not good for me but.... carbonation) and a couple jalapeno and cheese dogs later, I feel satisfied. Probably a good thing, but realized I forget to pick up cigarettes while I was there. Will have to try to remember later this morning.

I told the Wife last night to pack up what she needs for the one-night stay we are doing in Tempe tonight. Of course, she didn't. I said I wanted to be on the road by 7a, 7:15a at the latest. Will she be ready? Who knows. I'm the type that early is on time, but she is on time is early - which we all know to not be true. I'm sort of worried for the Wife today. Though she has lived here int he Valley her whole life, Tempe is more to the Eastside of the Valley, and we hardly ever get out that way. So knowing the street layouts, places to go, etc., is not on our easy side. Yet here I am giving her MY Car, to go galivanting about, meeting up with an old friend, and who knows what else, before we can check into the room... talk about Trust!

I'm a bit nervous about today. It is called Member Involvement Training, and they don't ever really say what it involves. According to the flyer(s) I have received, it just mentions dates/times. In fact, for today, 9a-12p all it says is 'Training and Mentoring', then a break for lunch provided by Humana, then the afternoon is the same, 'Training and Mentoring'. So who knows what I am walking into. Aside from that, I believe this is a state-wide Aux event, so there will be many people there I probably have never met. Let's add in the factor that the majority of Aux members are ladies, usually in their 50's and up, so it's like being around a bunch of Grandmas. I guess that would be cool, if they all brought cookies or something....lol. I know from my own Aux our Secretary and Treasurer will both be there, and they both have mentioned they are 'grooming' me for something more, and I guess they will take it to heart even more with me attending this event.

Grooming for more... in some ways that is scary for me. That means taking on a leadership role within the Post Aux. I particularly have no desire to add on to any of the duties I perform, on top of the ones I do now for two other committees. Hopefully this won't happen, but you know how older ladies get when they set their minds...sigh.

I guess I have pretty much rambled on more than enough this morning. I am just trying to kill time, as I don't see going back to bed, just wake at 6:30a is worth any effort.

Month Middle Blues

It's just past the middle of the month, and finally, I feel like my meetings have started to end off (thankfully) and I don't feel so busy. Though, I did add in a Membership training event this next weekend over in Tempe. It's Saturday and part of Sunday. I did get a hotel room for Saturday at the event, and plans are now for the Wife to join me out there. She will do some 'thrifting' and catch up with one of our old friends that live out on that side of town, whilst I am trapped in a room with a bunch of older women, doing Auxiliary learning stuff.

Tomorrow is the VFWRG meeting - the last meeting I have for the month. Even late Saturday evening the Director of the group was sending me stuff he wants added to the agenda (I didn't add) and telling me to send out a reminder email of the meeting date/time. I mean, c'mon! We are adults, I am sure we can plan our own calendars without having to be reminded all the time. But I did it anyways yesterday. Last night he was sending me more flyers to send out, but they aren't going to make it. Somehow I missed his message....(innocent look).

It's been a bit since I seen any of the grands. Daughter does send me pics, and Middle Son, well, they post a pic every once in awhile on the family album they set up online.

My birthday is coming up! I set the venue (VFW Post) and time for people to swing through.

Now if I could just find some work....

Let's Own This!

I last wrote in here Aug 4th. That was a Monday. Tuesday I had a meeting (House Comm @ the Post) and somethings came out. Most of it went well, for what I can control as a new Secretary still learning my position. The worst was it was noted I had not provided the minutes/agenda. Well, I do to the committee members, but I never thought about non-members of the House Comm, but other regular members that want to know what is goin g on. Yeah, they can't vote, but they can voice opinion, and I failed to provide them the literature of what we were going to discuss/has been discussed. I felt bad. We corrected in about 5 minutes, and now I know what to do better for all meetings I am a Secretary. Though, I still bitched that I don't have the finances to pay for printer ink for everyone, so I will only provide 10 copies. Members in all my groups can print their own (as far as I am concerned).

Well, there was more to it than that (go figure). Discussion had been going on for a couple months about revising a section of the Policy regarding Inventory. Welp, our Post Cmdr was there this week, and he flat out said, the Chair needs to get with his wordsmith, the Secretary, and make that revision. What?!? I have to word the revision, with approval from the Chair? I'm not a legal person in shape or form. Why am I the "wordsmith"??? After the meeting I approached the Commander about this, and he just looked me in the eye, and said, Ralph, you know your shit. You write your reports VERY well. When the final revision comes through, I'm sure you will do fine. Use small words if needed to explain the purpose, the changes, the need for those changes. It'll be fine.

It doesn't feel that way. Oh should I mention the Commander's Wife is my Aux Secretary/Treasurer, and has been "grooming me to do more leadership ( I heard about this just a few days ago). I'm feeling overwhelmed half the time already, and you want me to do more?!? Sigh. And I don't get paid for any of it....

Gripe over - for now.

I did reach out to my Aux Secretary. Treasurer, and President, in regards to another issue, all via email. I have a conundrum that I need guidance on, hopefully before our Aux meeting on Tuesday. Will see what comes in later today.

It's Friday! It's also the 2nd Friday, so the VFW Riders have our dinner night at the Post tonight. Sloppy Joes, chip, beans, and a dessert for $8 plate - $5 for an additional sandwich. I also have to sell raffle tickets for a 50/50 to go towards the NYE party - don't care, but doing it anyways, because I am on that committee too.

Yesterday was the Middle Son's birthday. I sent a text about midday, but no acknowledgement. Later in the evening, I know he was online playing games with the Youngest, so I know he is okay.

RM's birthday is Saturday! Wish I had the finances and time to do a splash for her.... I mean, I good luncheon/time out, whatever.... but I don't. I know Mom, you will say you don't need one, I just wish I could do one. Maybe next year....

So until next time I need to bitch....

When Overwhelming Feels More Like Impossible Odds

... That's when RM would say something along the lines of, 'Drop on your knees, and ask God what you should do'. I know I could not deny her that fact. And, if my Faith was anywhere close to my Mother's, I would do that.... but it ain't. I'm not. I might have actually made it to church this morning with the Wife, but... I am no where near that level.

I spent a few short hours with one of my best friends tonight. He leaves Tuesday morning for North Dakota, where he is returning to a similar job he had about 10 years ago, as a Prosecutor, for a county as an Asst State's Atty. He was good at it years ago, and just due to circumstances, had to return to AZ years ago. Now he is returning to there, ready to take on the world. I am so happy for him. But I will miss him quite a bit. Yeah, we got text, email, facetime, etc. etc., but it's not the same as sitting next to each other, clashing beer glasses in a toast.

Overwhelmed. Oh help me find a starting point..... I know I have mentioned a time or two before, that with some of the multi-roles I have within the committees for the VFW, I feel I get under/behind things, and the overwhelmed feeling creeps in. Well, I still get it, and this month has been starting earlier. I want to explain they why, and wherefores, but I think right now it is better if I just not.

Over this past weekend, I finally was able to visit my Middle Son, and his partner, and the new Grandson (my first). Since the baby was born, the girlfriend has been in "over-protective Mom Mode' and it has caused at least one argument between my Son and I. But I held my breath, and finally was able to "schedule" a time to go to their apartment and visit - and finally hold - my first grandson. It was only a short visit - about an hour, because the Son was just home from work (works overnights) and the girlfriend was up early (allegedly the baby was fussy) so the Wife and I did not want to take away too much time for them to get more rest. I admit, I got to hold him the most that hour, and he got his 'Papaw nickname'.

Over the past month, as I fumed, waiting to be able to actually see/hold my grandson, I tried picking out a nickname early. With the granddaughters, I got to see them at least early enough, and as I held them, their 'nicks' came out easy. But being how this was taking forever, I tried to pick one early. It don't work that way. I had three or four nicknames picked, but once I got this boy in my arms, they all disappeared. I remember the Middle Son looking at me, and asking, 'Dad, got his nick yet?' And all I could say was, leave me alone, and let me enjoy this minute. Maybe 15 minutes before we left, the name Doc popped out at me, and so it is. Maybe he will be some kind of doctor some day....

So, in the course of four days, I have been on a roller coaster ride of self. From feeling 'bossed around' and what leadership wants me to send out (since I am a secretary) and my own moral/ethical beliefs, to feeling overwhelmed at requirements expected of me, to over-enjoyment of holding my grandson, and repeat. It has been flipping crazy. And add in a Best Friend is moving out of state as well. Sigh. Nobody said being a Saint was easy, and I ain't never professed, or even alluded, to me being one, but life has ben pretty messed up of late.

I have a feeling, this month is bringing changes for me. I have many, many questions, for leadership in all venues of my Post, and depending on some answers, I am sure will determine how I decide to continue, or not, my service (voluntarily) with each group I work with.

Such fun.... Wish you were me?

Hot F*ing D*mn!

Whew! It only took until dang near 7pm last night, but the a/c got fixed with a new blower motor (I called it!) and the house cooled back on down. Of course, being the pessimist I am, I had issues from the time he showed up.

Tech appointment was somewhere between 4pm-7pm, and I will admit I was surprised I got the the text he was on his way around 4pm. I was at an event, but the Youngest, because he is of an adult age, was at home I was fine. Tech spent around an hour to diagnose. Called me, said he got the old motor working, but couldn't guarantee the intermittent use of, or lack of, but he had a replacement motor on his truck. I asked how much, he said, I said then put it in. Sigh. Like I want to call your company to send someone else out again if tomorrow the motor quit. SMH.

I get a price quote. I'm like, it's good, do it. Then my Pessimist stepped up. For two hours, I don't hear anything. I'm thinking, did the motor go in, and in the process they messed with something else? Did the system fail, and now something else needs replaced as well? Is he bottom-feeding and trying to make me buy a whole new unit? Trouble, trouble, trouble.

Finally he called back, said he has the new motor installed. The temp had dropped 10 degrees with it in place. Everything else is "holding together" for a 20-25 year-old unit (Thanks to inheriting this problem). I paid over the phone, and honestly, I would use this company again. I probably will call them come August to do a maintenance run on it, or quote for a new one, even if I flinch a lot at the cost. "This Old House", though inherited, is starting to get expensive.

So, after my event last night, I came home and it felt so much cooler. Sigh. Problem solved for now.

That leads us into Tuesday, and I have our regular Aux meeting tonight. According to the Agenda, I do not see anything I am going to volunteer to help with, but it reminded me of this Friday,7/11, where my Riders are doing their first dinner night, and that we have not asked for help. So, didn't care how late as it was an email, I contacted all, saying we need help with pre-set up, serving, post-clean up, etc. Then as I awoke at 5:30am this morning, I re-sent a reply all that I need to know who can help. Telling people we have needs, and asking are two different things I have learned. With it being this Friday, I hope more respond, but the pessimist in me says, well, no one will.

And so I stress. Like those dinner ideas don't happen for the regular Post, or Aux dinner nights each month. And the Commander says we need as the Riders Group to do one every month as well. Going to be one heck of a meeting this month, so I hope the Riders show up. In a small way, I wish I could kick them if they don't, but that is not a possibility. Sigh. Paid dues, they are there for a year, whether they help, show up or otherwise.

Obviously I am a bit on the 'not happy' side this morning. Sounds like most mornings, eh?

RM invited me yesterday to meet-up with her and PT for a salad luncheon at my favorite bottom-less salad place, Red Robin. I turned her down, as I had just had a basic burger from Jack in the Box, and honestly, wasn't sure I was holding it down. With the AC down, the heat has been playing hell with my old body. I'd been nauseous for the past two days, and yesterday alone, I think I had to heave at least 4 times, with the heat, and my pessimism causing havoc on my thought process. As RM says, maybe it is better to just say a prayer to God and release your worries.

I know I owe RM a lunch-time with the messed-up middle kid at some point soon. My schedule is freaking weird. Wished I could have done it yesterday, but mentally, it would not have been fun. That, and PT would have been there. As he ages, it gets harder, and harder, for me to 'deal with' him. I understand getting old, heck, I am as well. Hearing is one thing. Common Sense and direction are others. And he is still driving, even after years ago I spoke to him about hanging up the keys. Honestly, there are days I think about hanging up mine... and I don't "have" too. I understand the stress it puts on others to need to be there for you (Dr appts, etc.) but still.

Well, I am just ranting about crap that none of you care about, so I'll just close this off. RM - will try a good date for us to get out together for a lunch (our quarterly, or whenever?) and reach out.

Blah, Blah, It's Thursday, Blah, Blah

Well, you can tell from my lack of posting it is a pretty boring week.

Tuesday had a regular month Aux meeting. Went over some new changes in our program reports that they are changing this year. New elected leadership assumed their positions. I did get called out in the meeting. While talking about the Program Reports (these are where we record volunteer hours worked at events promoting Americanism, working community event, etc). I had helped a couple days with preparing for the flag drop at the cemetery, and when I emailed the then President with my information (Who, What, When, Where, Why) and included pictures, she was very happy at the fullness of my report. She brought that p at the meeting. All I said was "Thanks for the training" as we had had it a few short weeks earlier, going over how to report for the Program reports.

Nothing on my agenda heading into this weekend. Sunday is Father's Day, and I don't have any plans. I'll throw PT a text at least. I have no idea if any of my kids will text/call/see me. I'm not worried about it, as I know most of them are busy with their own lives. I definitely do not expect any presents - unless it is cash. I could use some to help purchase my trauma kit to carry on the runs.

I guess I need to get off of here. I do have several Secretary things I need to get toaken care of today, preparing for the Riders Meeting this next week.

I Did A Thing ....

.... that caused me quite a it of anxiety.

As I am sure I have mentioned before, I am a member of the VFW Riders Group Chapter 1433 (my Post) and have been the Secretary of said Chapter for a few months. A few weeks ago I learned of this class, called Accident Scene Management, which has like three levels of study, but the level 100 course was being held at my Post, for only $100. I had talked to (at the time) a couple other guys (not part of the Riders) who had said the class is worth taking, so I went to sign up online. I did get a discount down to $50 (thanks to the Husband & Wife Law Team) and that class was yesterday.

I showed up early (my Post after all) and had no idea how many were to show as it was an 'open to public' sign-up and attendance. All said and done, the instructor said there were 12 scheduled - we ended up only having 6. It was an all day class, and I was under the impression it was more information of what to do, versus actually doing it. Was I ever wrong. This class centers around motorcycle riders (why I went) and being able to handle basic emergency needs, prior to EMS/Other showing up in the case of an accident.

I did not know there would be 'teamwork' skills being used. Or partnering up to practice tourniquets/pressure bandages. Or anything aside from sitting in a chair listening to a speaker. I am not much of a people person, especially when I do not know you. I can cordial, sometimes even friendly sounding, and shake your hand.... but leave me the heck alone. No such luck through the skills tests we had to do, which were good, but I had to be a team player. Talking about, in the event of having to move someone how to stabilize the head/spine as we (a 2-3 person group) moved them from the road. OR the 2-person combo to remove a helmet if they are not breathing. Of course there was much, much more about airways, breathing, circulatory and bandaging.... It was so much that by 5pm my head was full, and I needed to decompress and let things settle.

As I sat and contemplated the day over a beer at my regular watering hole, I realized I had had at least 4 anxiety attacks during the day - every time I had to do a skill set with someone, let alone a live volunteer. Unconscious/dead is one thing, but when they are awake and just 'laying there' is different. But I did it, even if I did say "sorry" a lot (the helmet removal, which pulled some hair from the instructor's head) even before I started.

Bottom line is I passed, and the certification is good for three years. <beaming> And I got a badge! Actually it is a patch, that I am supposed to wear on my 'cut' (which I'll be getting early July). It helps identify that as a 'first on scene' person, I have some basic training that works in-line with EMS, even at just the level we have. Now to get more of the Riders group to do the class...sigh. AND I need to purchase a trauma kit ( many sizes/styles available, but as I am 4-wheel support it was suggested by the instructor I carry the "larger one" that provides more - and I am not able disagree). So I will be looking up the 2-3 websites for kits she mentioned, just to rant about how expensive it all is - let alone if ever used, to restock (may I never have to use for any accident though).

Whew! Our VFW leadership were all gone this weekend to Tucson for the State Convention this past weekend. This is the time where the newly elected officers (Post and Auxiliary) are sworn to their positions for the year. Thank goodness it is over. I have been waiting 4 days to get approval on the minutes I sent from the last meeting for several days, and finally got it this morning. So now, officially, I am caught up between my committees and Riders, etc. I do have our regular Aux meeting tomorrow night, but I am not an officer, and though I take notes, I do not have to transcribe into minutes, etc.

Sometimes, I wish I could get paid for this shit, instead of having to look/wait for work. Sigh. Life is ....

Nuttin' Much ....

... to write about this morning, but I felt I should work harder at putting something in here.

Spent the afternoon at the Post (as a regular Saturday) as a friend was doing bartender duty. We were able to catch up, which was nice. I did my Viking/clash/game thingy most of the afternoon. Saw my Brother in the evening. The SIL came up and was talking to another person sitting to my left (an acquaintance) and of course I ignored her. At the same time she said nothing to me (which was a bit odd, as she always tries to). Brother came up a few minutes later and said the SIL had already started drinking at home, and on the way, he had told her to NOT speak tome, because she was already half-drunk. I guess he knew I would rip her a new one if she started spouting off to me....

Today plans are made. Once again back to the Post as a friend is celebrating her 80th birthday and has the Hall rented out from 12p-4p. I had stopped yesterday morning and picked up a couple cards - one for her, and one for another celebrating their 80th next weekend. No gift, as I am not a good gift shopper, and at 80, I am sure she has most things she needs/wants, so want am I going to change. Today's challenge will be trying to get the Wife to go with me. She has met this friend before, but the Wife seems to hate going to the Post. Got a few hours to work it out yet....

Today is also my Oldest Son's birthday. He turns (counting on fingers and toes) DAMN! He turns 27 today! I sent off a text to him saying the happy bday thing. No, with plans I have today, I didn't even try to do the family dinner thing. I would have loved if he wanted to come 'hang out with Dad' for his day, but none of the kids like to do that anymore. I feel like when I am texting, I am still intruding into their personal lives. I guess being an asshole dad will make that happen.

Tomorrow starts the week again with a Monday. I'll be heading to the Post (again) to help inspect and bundle the flags for the Veteran markers at the cemetery next Saturday. Still need to check if the Youngest would like to do it again this year with me or not.

Nothing else coming to mind that I can share about her, so I am guessing I am done.

Training Day

No, not the movie, though I liked it. It is Training Day at the VFW Post, specifically regarding the new program reports they want to start using in June. Usually this is just for the Ghairperson that heads a certain area (Americanism, Hospital, Schools, etc), but I had asked if I could be included. Yeah, I know ... I actually asked for it, but only because I felt if it is something I am able to learn, it might carry over into the committees I am on, or worse (sigh) I could be elected into some position to have to do the report. Shrug. Either way, I felt it needed to be done.

Sunday is Mother's Day, and I apologize RM, I have not gotten you a gift. I do have an idea of what I am going to do, but it may be a couple days or so before I am able to get back out there to deliver it. I have made no plans for the Wife for her Day. I figured at worst, we could go to dinner. At best, I sort of left it to the kids to make plans if they were going to do so. Unfortunately, only the Boys live in the Valley, and I am sure the Daughter will not be up this way. She will be enjoying her day as well.

Monday is my medical appointment. I had kept thinking it was on Tuesday, but last night I checked the date to verify, and it is the 12th, so Monday at 8am. My glucose and BP numbers have been good, so I don't think they are going to change anything. That's when I'll ask if I can go 6 months between appointments, as right now they have been keeping it at three months.

Tuesday is our regular VFW Aux. and there is supposed to be a graduation party for an acquaintance that evening as well that I may attend after the meeting.

So, I made a "big" purchase this week. I broke down and purchased a laptop. I have never had one, as I always felt my fingers were too big and fat to "squish" in together to be able to type. Maybe that was with laptops years ago... being smaller. I didn't really look at the size dimensions, outside of storage, when I bought it. It's just a little thing, as I don't to expect to use it more than my meeting notes, agenda, training, etc. It does have wi-fi (and bluetooth) so I can connect to the internet to access my Google docs, or Office365, or OneDrive, etc. Bought a carrying case for it, and a small wireless mouse as well. All for under $300. I thought it was a good deal, and will be better than having to rely on my scratchy writing for notes when I type up stuff.

Three book reviews, one set of committee notes, and training stuff today.... I'm busy.

You Know What Today Is....

... it's Hump Day! Well, for those that work a M-F job it is anyways. Though, not for a lack of me trying to find work....

My buddy J had taken his car in last week for an oil change, and had asked me to pick-up/drop-off when done. It was a new "mom and pop" shop that 'took over' the vehicle repair section of the Pep Boys at 35th Ave & Cactus. They don't have the store part, just the auto repair area. Anyways, while dropping him off, I set an appointment for my oil change. It has been about 3 years and 10K miles since I bought the car. Around 5K miles, Toyota said it wouldn't need to be done until 10K due to the synthetic they use. So, I took it in today. Youngest picked me up and we went to lunch at Red Robin, then he dropped me back off. I was a bit shocked at the cost for an oil change, but inflation....

Afterwards, it was a quick run to Walgreen's to pick up a 'scrip for me, and one for the Wife. I have my medical appointment next Tuesday, though I don't see anything changing. I'm going to push for a 6 month between visits, as no prescription has changed in at least the past 9 months.

Last night was the VFW Entertainment and House Committee meetings. Chairman loved the agenda I created, and now expects one each month. I'm glad to do it, even though I had to learn several new things between doing them on Google Docs, and format, etc (thanks RM for the * info - it works). I'll get around to the minutes later this week.

This week I have received three notices for book reviews on books I have requested. I have managed to get two read already, the third I just got the email today, so will start it this afternoon. Then I'll have those to type up as well.

That's quite a bit of typing for someone that has no secretary skills....

Winding Down ....

... more like running on empty. After being up all night Friday into Saturday, the sleep I got last night still didn't 'fill the tank'.

Saturday, I basically spent the whole day up at the VFW. There were District Instruction meetings, followed by District Post & Aux meetings, which all ran until about 12:30pm. Usually they are not that long, but due to this being the start of the VFW Fiscal year, elections had to take place. Then there was the 'installation' of Officers (where they pledge oath to their respective positions). Thankfully, I was not nominated for any District position (nor regular Aux earlier this month). Following the meetings, lunch was provided (fruit trays and sandwich wraps).

Since most Saturdays I end up down at the Post anyways, I stuck around. Mainly because a friend of mine and his girlfriend were planning to come there later that evening. P played my Viking Clash game on the tablet (it was all-day clash again...like every Saturday) and drank small pitchers of tea. By 6pm I was "tea'd out" and started on the Ultra. My friends showed up around 7, and stayed until shortly after the Queen of Hearts drawing at 9, before they left for home. I had a couple songs in for karaoke so stayed longer. Around10:30pm I recalled that another bar I used to go to regularly, was having a karaoke contest that was to start at 11pm, so I headed over a couple miles to that place. Though I did make it there in time, was able to walk-in and enter, but it had to be a song referencing the word 'sex'. There were four other people on the list, and I saw what songs they were going to do, but I just wasn't in the mood to figure out a song. I have a song that I have been told by many, many people I do very well, and I had planned to do that one (and probably winning, as long as it isn't a popularity contest - which most times it is). I did sing that one, but then finished my one drink and headed home.

Sunday I slept in until about 11am. I needed to get up and moving as there was a VFW Riders meeting at 1pm. As I'm checking messages/emails/etc on my phone, I see the Director had emailed me requesting me to make an Agenda for today's meeting. Since I am Secretary, I suppose I should have been doing this for previous meetings as well, though I am still learning the position requirements and whatnot. I was able to put together a basic one in the allotted time, though unfortunately, the previous months meeting notes were not right front of me. I admit that I was on my computer, and they were on there, I just wasn't awake enough to remember that fact. Made it to the meeting, and the Director was satisfied for the Agenda I had thrown together. I guess he admitted to be a bit ADHD when it comes to the meetings, and wants an agenda so he can 'stay on track' for meeting business. More work to do.... Because I am Secretary to the House Comm. as well, and that Chairman was in the Riders meeting, and now he said I should do that for the House as well. Sigh. I guess if I do it after I make the minutes for distribution, it won't be overly taxing.

After the meeting I came home, and pretty much haven't done much else. Caught up in my Viking game a bit. Wrote here. Not sure about dinner plans, but am guessing the Wife will be in here soon to ask me what plans are (which I usually don't have/make). Which would mean we are going out to eat. Guess that will be a surprise....

Tax Rush Monday

So, taxes are due to be completed by midnight tomorrow (date-stamped from the Post Office, or computer time-checked for those doing it online). Yeah, yeah... I have slacked off, and have not done ours yet. As I use one of the many tax programs out there, I shall complete it this morning and get it done. Hoping we don't owe either entity anything...but will see. This will be the last time we can claim the Youngest as well. I'll have some breakfast here in a bit, check my glucose and BP, then settle into getting it done. It only takes me like 15 minutes (if that) to complete it.

Last week, we had the Aux and Post elections for their next fiscal year. Fortunately, I was not nominated for anything. However, I still hold the Secretary position for the House committee, and the Riders Chapter. Both are appointed positions, not elected, and I know for a fact that no one else wants to take notes at the meetings. I have recently glanced through the by-laws for each group, and noticed that there are other duties assigned to the position I had not known about, so I suppose I will have to brush up on it, and figure out how to do them, if needed. Only the Riders Chapter has any elections left for the month, and again, I am not nominated for anything. I think only the Director and Vice are up for grabs.

Some caramel flavored coffee sounds good this morning.... be right back.

Ahhhh. Much better.

Nothing exciting scheduled today. This coming weekend we talked about going to Tucson for Saturday (Doodad's birthday) but haven't heard of the kids making plans, so not sure. If I leave it up to the Wife, we will be going.

Not Sure What to do With Myself

It's an early Wednesday morning, and though I wish it were because I happened to awaken early, but sadly it is not. I'm still awake since yesterday. As it nears the 5am hour, I just finished typing up notes from the Post House Committee meeting (I'm the Secretary) and sent out to the Chair for approval, prior to sending out to all House members. Tonight's meeting was long, long, long.... I say that because the Chair is someone that has ADHD (squirrel!) and goes off on tangents. But tonight, he actually made some points/discussion issues on paper, and was good about it, until he asked if anyone had 'other business', in which I spoke up. He gave me a quizzical look, to which I responded, 'we have two months of tabled discussions, unclosed issues that have not been addressed, so as I voice them, tell me if these are "off the table" or let's resolve them'. Big Sigh, but I had the opportunity to remove a few, resolve a few, and bring discussion to the others. Overall, was a good meeting, though longer than I like. And I think the Chair may be mad at himself for appointing me as Secretary (previously, the position was held by no one that took notes).

That being said, and 2 1/2 hours later (typing minutes categorizing as to new/old/notes/discussion) took me awhile. I just emailed and asked for an edit, if any revisions need to be made (corrections with dates/info/etc) and now I wait. He's pretty good, and I expect a reply later this morning. Our General Post meetings are next Tuesday, and though I am Aux, I don't have to take notes, but we are at the fiscal year, and elections for leadership are taking place. Nominations were last month, and I am sure we will allow 'last minute' ones, but in the Aux, I think we are covered. Thankfully I am not nominated for anything. My Secretary standing with the House Comm is 'appointed', just as is the same with the Riders Chapter. I don't have to be elected, and as usual, no male wants the job. I guess being a book nerd gets me the job.....

Spent this last weekend down South with the Daughter and family. I always love seeing my Doodad, Widget, and Babygirl.... oh and her husband. Wife and I stayed overnight (hotel) and Saturday we all went to dinner at Golden Corral (a buffet). SIL pulled a change on me, and jumped in to pay for dinner as an Anniversary present for the Wife and I (34 years this past Sunday). I was a tad angry, as I invited them out. I'm of the mind-set that if I invite you, I pay. If you invite me/us, you pay. Well, he got me that night. But it was much appreciated. I forced him to at least let me leave the tip.

I don't know about how normal people go through life (I always considered myself off-center of normal) but lately I have been doing too much internal reflection. Recently, the Middle Son has been asking questions of me (via phone text messages) inquiring about several things. Mostly about his grandfather, and my memories of him. Then about more about me, and the years prior to the Wife and I being married. As I turned these questions over in my mind, I realize that with all my children, I never talked much about my life, prior to marrying their mother. And even those few years at the beginning, there are many details that to this day I don't speak about. The Wife knows some, and I trust her when I said she can never share, but if someone were to ask, she could direct them to me. I don't think that happened with the Middle Son, but either way, he has come asking.

...and I don't know what to do. I hate talking on the phone. Phone texts are even worse, especially if you are trying to share a story...forever typing. Sigh. I told the Son to just text me questions, and when we can meet up, I'll share the answers. But as parents, getting time with your adult children, that is sometimes harder than actually answering the question. This Son has asked me some pretty specific questions, and some I have already replied to, basically telling him to 'wonder forever, because you get no answer from me'. That wasn't easy to tell one of my kids, but sometimes, there are things that even they do not need to know about my life.

And there we have it. Life. Been thinking/feeling a lot about it lately. Medically things seem to be going well. BP and Diabetes allegedly under control (according to daily testing). I seem to find new and more things to add to the list that I 'should ask the doctor about' which will never happen, until I have to. I know much of it is due to habits (drinking, smoking, previous drug use) but I tend to mark it as old age, and this body just falling apart. In some ways, I wish I were more like RM & PT where I am more fit (regardless what you say RM!!!) for my age than I am. But that's' where life gets you when you make not good decisions in your younger years. Sigh.

Okay. I'm done pontificating this morning. It's Wednesday. Happy Hump Day.

Just Another Day (Except I am SO TIRED)

So here it is, just before 7am on a wonderful Saturday morning that I could be sleeping in on. But no, not in the cards for me. Wide awake all night.

The VFW is having a ground-breaking ceremony this morning, to introduce the 'small houses' for Vets that Glendale has been supporting us on. It's just the ground breaking, but at least it is getting started. I had not volunteered for any of it, but since I am awake this early, I may head over there soon, to see if they need assistance in setting up the Hall, or whatever, for the smuckity-smucks (local gov't). I got pros/cons about them, but at least it finally is getting started (allegedly).

I think later today will find me back at home taking a nap, but who knows for sure....

What Have We Got This Week ...?

It has been nearly a week since I last wrote in here. Seems like some days I feel worn down and ragged, even though there just isn't much going on in my life. I think I have mentioned before that I am trying to get more involved int he VFW Post I am at (Auxiliary). Last Sunday we had our second VFW Riders Group meeting and cleared up some basic information. Still waiting the patch approval from National offices, so no sense in going out and buying my 'cut' just yet. Also need to talk to another rider, about patch placements, and about some other issues that may not be included with the main patch - like since I am 'support', per the SOP for National and State, it has to be on my cut that I am support. But where does the patch go, since it shouldn't be on the back, I'm guessing under my name on the right side front? Little things like that. One that I am sure I will sound sort of stupid about, is how do you put the patches on? Are they iron-on, need to be sewn on, and what about the Velcro ones, how is the Velcro attached.

Against my better judgement, I also joined the New Years Eve party committee. We are in charge of the event for NYE, and the theme, food(s), drink specials - all aspects basically. There are nine of us I believe, and most of them I know fairly well, and we get along good. So it will be sort of like hanging with friends planning a party. I donated a little bit to help start our fund, and we are doing 50/50 raffles each Saturday to help raise money. Food is going to be a pot-luck, and has a sign-up sheet online for once the Post approves the flyer, and that it truly is an 'open to the public event'. Nice part, is we are observing the EST ball drop of 10:00PM, allowing everyone to not have to be out until midnight, unless they choose to.

So only two things I have joined, but am able to get to more meetings to find out what things are going on around the Post, etc. I can observe, ask questions, voice opposition if needed, but cannot vote on those meetings. In fact, Tuesday I have three such meetings going on that evening.

Saturday is the Daughter's birthday, and our plan is to head to Tucson for the day. We will also be picking up Youngest's girlfriend. It will be nice to see my Doodad again, as it feels like it has been too long. The Daughter did find out the sex of the baby that is due in late January, but I have not seen here publicly share yet, so I guess I shouldn't here yet. The plan was to have Youngest drive to/from, as it gives him more freeway driving practice, but with his girlfriend going, the Wife and I decided that may be too much distraction, so I will be driving instead.

Tomorrow (today) is Friday, and I will be spending a good part of the afternoon down at the Post. Got a book that needs reading for a review. Plus that evening there is a raffle drawing for a gift basket. I had bought like $20 worth of tickets back in the beginning of September, and last I knew, still had the majority of ticket sales. Good chance for me to win it!

Haven't seen/heard from the two older sons, so I am guessing things are going okay for them. I did hear some upsetting news last night I believe it was, about a niece. I am sure the family don't need me sharing more about it, so I won't.

So, the Doctor's (rather Nurse Practioner's) office called me the other day. I had lab work done a couple weeks following the appointment I had back in early August. They were just now calling to see if I would schedule an appointment, just for the NP to go over the results with me. I asked if I had any appt set at this time, and they said yes, the follow-up in early November. I said it could wait until then. I haven't gone into the MyChart they use to even look at the results, but I pretty sure I know what they will basically read as. I'm sure she will want to increase the cholesterol pill. She'll moan about my liver, and I will deny getting an ultra-sound done, same with the extra cardiologist crap she wants me to do. I'd also like her to prescribe me something like Ambien to help me sleep better. Every time I bring up sleep issues, she deflects it and goes on to something about my liver or the cardiologist stuff. Might be time to find a new doctor....

Halloween is coming up soon. I don't normally dress-up for it, but last year I almost had. I had got a monk's robe, and some white face paint. Was going to shave my head, and also bought a "magic" lightbulb. Was planning on going as a bearded Fester, but the lightbulb wouldn't work. A couple weeks after the holiday, I was able to take it apart and figured out the short it had, so it works now. But I am not shaving my head... I'll just go to the Spirit of Halloween store, and see if they got something like a wooden cross I can hang around my neck and go as a Friar Tuck figure. Still not 100% I will dress up for sure.

Welp, it's after 2:30AM, and I ain't sleepy yet. Guess I need to find something to do to get that way....

What New With You?

Sometimes, it is the little things that just wear a person out mentally. This past week, it has been all about getting my new prescription filled at the pharmacy. I mentioned in the last post (from last Monday) the issues, and yes, they were finally resolved this past week. Tuesday I had went in for the blood draw for my lab work, and while at the Dr's office, asked about the authorization from the insurance for the prescription. They gave me the info they received (an email) which I took a copy with me. Then off to the pharmacy, where I spoke to the pharmacist, gave him the email, explained what was going on. He said he would call the insurance. An hour or so later, he calls me, the insurance company now is saying they need me to call them, to 'finalize authorization' - note, Thursday the week prior they had said it was all taken care of. So I got the number he was given. I was tired, and took a nap. After waking, I called the insurance company, was told just two hours prior to my call (and after they spoke to the pharmacy) everything had been taken care of (again). Later that afternoon, I got the text the 'script was ready for pick up. So I have been on the new med for a couple days, and haven't seen much improvement in my glucose levels. Might be it takes a bit longer.

After that fiasco, I was pretty much done dealing with anything for the week. I know, I'm a wimp.

As of this morning, I am now officially a member of the VFW Post 1433 Sandy Coor Riders Org. Late last night I had seen a post on the VFW post site about an open meeting this morning to start a chapter at my Post, so I got up early and went. No, I don't have a motorcycle, and I don't ride at all. No plans to get one. I signed on as 'Support Staff' and as of right now, am the only support they have. Of course, this was the first meeting, and since I didn't even know about it until late last night, I am sure many others didn't know either. Next month's meeting will bring more in I am sure. But this does mean I get a patch, so now have an excuse to get a leather vest to put it on, and look like a biker dude at the meetings and events we will eventually schedule and host. Heck, I already got some tats and the biker beard.

Nothing major planned for this week. Monday will get the usual email to the Company. I think this week I will play around with Google calendar, and see if I can start putting int he dates of things going on that I seem to not remember until they right upon the time of occurrence. Then I can sync with my phone as well. Never really sued it before, so will have to "learn" it.

Welp, Need to go take care of some other things now....

My Exciting Life ....

There has just been so much going on lately, that I don't have time to write in here anymore. Now, if you know me, that is true sarcasm. I haven't done much of anything since last Wednesday.

A couple weeks ago (around about) I had gone to see the NP. We had adjusted the new med I was taking for diabetes from a 3mg to a 7mg. When it was first prescribed three months prior to that, it took nearly a month to get it approved through the insurance and actually get the meds. It's been two weeks now, and I still don't have the higher dosage yet. Since it was turned into the pharmacy, Walgreens has been telling me there is an 'insurance issue' with it. Well, Thursday, the NP's office called to tell me that it had been "taken care of" and should go through now. I also got a call from the insurance company, telling me it had been approved at the 7mg dosage for one year, then would need to be re-approved. Friday I get the text from Walgreens that I had 3 'scripts ready for pick-up. An hour later, text from Walgreens says 2 for pick-up, insurance issue with the one.

Sigh. Saturday I stopped in at Walgreens, picked up the 2 that were ready, and was told from them that they did get the 7mg dosage in, but insurance won't cover, as the pharmacy doesn't have the authorization for the 7mg that is supposed to go from the insurance to the Dr to the pharmacy. I explained it was all taken care of last Thursday. All to no avail. The Wife says give it a couple days, maybe just getting the info from ins-dr-pharm is retardedly slow and it will be resolved on Monday. So here I sit awaiting a text saying it is ready for pick-up. If I don't get it by noon, I'll be sending off a note to the Dr's office, explaining that the pharmacy needs that auth still and would they call there and give it versus email or whatever else. If I had not filled the 3mg dosage right before my last appointment, I don't know what I would do, as I have been taking two of them daily for now. Worst case is going back tot he Metformin, which I really hate all the side effects it gave me - even with extended release.

Saturday morning started off good. Took the Wife and Youngest up to Ronnie's to have breakfast. I Could barely eat half of mine (I know, unbelievable right?) and the only one that cleaned their plate was the Youngest. Afterwards went home and 'piddled around the house' not doing much of anything until decided to go pick up the meds.

Saturday evening I got to Wife to agree to going up to the VFW for the monthly steak dinner. For $20 you get a nice sized ribeye, huge baked potato, green beans, roll, salad and a dessert. It might be the last time for awhile that we do the steak dinner. We ordered our steaks medium, and when picking them up, was told med-rare, and I corrected that they should be medium. The gal said sorry, that was what she meant. Nope, we got to eating and they were not even med-rare, but RARE. I mean, mine moo'ed when I cut it. The baked potatoes were not 'baked' all the way and were half uncooked. Salad was skimpy - I had mine gone in three bites. The whole meal was just crappy compared to the last time we had it a few months ago. I know the volunteer crew working the kitchen that night was 'new' and not the usual crew, but still.... We stayed for the Queen of Hearts draw (rolls again) and left. Wife admitted she was overstimulated with all the loudness (karaoke) and the crowd that the draw brings in on a Saturday. That and add in my Brother and Wife showed up, sitting at the table next to us - ugh. I really dislike her.

Sunday was kind of boring as well. Middle Son stopped by (to do laundry) so got to visit with him a little. The Wife took Youngest out for more drive-time and lunch, so I headed up to the pub. While out driving they decided to go to the discount grocery, and I got a text asking if I wanted ginger ale. I'm more of a cola guy, but said sure, just for carbonation and it is probably better than cola for me. At that time, I noticed my bank card was not in my phone wallet. Uh oh. I last used it Saturday night at the VFW, and remember putting it in my shirt pocket. Must still be there. I texted the Wife, asked when they were done shopping, could she check the dirty clothes for the card, and if found, bring it up to me as I had no cash on me. Once she got home, she could not find the card in the laundry basket. So she brought me up some cash so I could pay my tab, then I went home. <shaking head>. The Wife had some plastic bags of (to me junk) small things for Christmas presents sitting next to the laundry basket. The first one I looked into, there was my card. She only looked int he basket. Sigh.

At least the card was found, and I didn't have to deal with a replacement, and all the re-upping info on auto-pays. It was still early so I went back out to another pub, had a couple more beers, read a few more chapters, then headed back to Whataburger to pick up supper (I had told the Wife I would do that).

Now it is almost 10am on a Monday. Email sent to the Company that I am available for any project. No text from the pharmacy yet, so may go ahead and note to the Dr office. But first, I think I need to go read a couple more chapters in the Reading Room, if ya know what I mean ....
