At Least There Will Be Ice Cream ....

 ... maybe.

It's Friday, and I find myself well-rested, waking before 6:30am today. I had been able to get out the other day and picked up more edibles, so slept well last night. Aside from a couple 'awaken instantly' moments, and a couple foot cramps, it was a nice night.

Tomorrow we will be doing a trip South to Tucson, to visit the Daughter and Family. Doodad's 8th birthday is tomorrow, and we will go for the day, though the Daughter said that with it being Easter weekend, they are not really doing any sort of party. She mentioned with many families traveling and whatnot, they decided to do like a pizza party next Saturday. I'm not going back down then, as I don't want to be at a pizza joint with a bunch of screaming 8 year-olds running around. <shudder>.

Decided to myself I will be heading down to the Post today, though not staying into the evening late. Used to have karaoke on Fridays and Saturdays, but due to lower attendance and Canteen sales, they cancelled Fridays now. However, tonight is an even to remember a fallen Veteran and fellow law officer killed on duty. Supposed to be a LOT of people (oh joy). Most of the event is to raise monies for funeral costs for the family (allegedly). I am always hesitant about fund-raising like this, though IO do understand the high costs, etc. Just have become somewhat jaded on the subject, especially after seeing so many people with the plastic jugs at street corners with some kid's picture taped on the jar, panhandling. Many times, it would be the same kid pic for weeks on end, though never the same person. Sigh. Makes me think poorly of some of our society. So yeah, not planning on being around for that event. My usual Saturday afternoon I will be in Tucson, and gladly. The Post has the Rough Riders MC doing an "In Memoriam" motorcycle ride that ends at the Post, remembering all those that passed in motorcycle accidents. I know it will be crazy up there that night.

Not much going on for now....

Returning to a (Somewhat?) Normal Life

Saturday, we went over to the Middle Son's apartment for the baby shower for his girlfriend. They played some small games (I didn't participate) and had several people stop in. It was a come-and-go affair. We brought over extra water bottles, and provided some eats (chips, a garden tray, some candies). I got to see my Doodad and Widget, and got some more cuddle time with Widget. She really is starting to show some baby chubbiness as she has been gaining some weight. Wife and I left late afternoon, and once we had unloaded at home, I headed down to the VFW, as I had been by there in a few weeks. I didn't stay late, as no one there I really wanted to talk with, and it was the same seven people singing karaoke (which gets boring with their same songs), so I headed towards home and stopped into my regular spot. New bartender was working, instead of one of the girls I prefer, so left there, went to my old stomping grounds, it was dead, so off to home I went.

Sunday we had planned for the Youngest's Bday dinner, since his Sister and family were in town. He wanted Olive Garden, so we went. Oldest Son was able to make it, and I had invited RM And PT to join as well. Service was not up to what I would consider their regular standard. It took too much time to get drink orders, which we went and ordered food at the same time, since we had to wait so long. Another long wait to actually get my drink (iced tea). Refills on my salad seemed to take a long time....in short, everything took much longer than it should have. But I didn't reflect my displeasure in the tip, because all said and done, we were a party of nine....

Very few plans for this week. Monday evening I am headed to the Post as I said I would meet up with a couple other members and hang-out. Tuesday is our general Aux meeting. Saturday, our Riders Chapter is going along with some other groups on a ride, starts in Coolidge, and I am not sure where-all it is going, but should be a most of the day event. I was thinking of riding along (even in my RAV), but not sure it if it will happen - me going that is.

Was watching some of them short reels on the FB tonight, and came across a couple that had to do with the Villains of Disney movies (Maleficent, etc.) and some origin, or "twisted tales" from several authors. I started hunting a few down through my book sites. Think I may check them out and see if they are interesting. Some were marked for more YA, but who knows.

Guess I should go and try to lay down again. I took one of them edibles a couple hours plus ago, but I think it isn't working tonight, due to the amount of food I ate. Maybe it isn't strong enough to fight the body with all that food break-down going on. I dunno.

Friday for Seniors

No, we're not talking about some special deal today at the local Dennys for those of us over 50. Actually, I think they have it at 55, but that is aside from the point. Tonight is the Senior Recognition at the home football game. The Youngest will be (the last) one of the band seniors being presented, and the Wife, with my limping, heavy self, will be escorting him. Last night they were working on the poster with his name and whatever ideas they had drawn on it. I think his was his name and a bass drum.

Saturday will be a busy day. Youngest has NAU band day, and his call time is 5am at the school. It is only about a 2 1/2 hour drive, and they do not perform until noon. Then stay until the awards at 6pm before being on the road around 7pm. The Wife and I are not going this year. Last year we went, and ended up in the rain for an hour plus, as the parking shuttles decided to stop transporting people before the end of the event. Luckily, campus police were able to get the 15 or so of us to our respective vehicles. I have no desire for that to happen again. Instead we will be making a trip down south to visit the Daughter, SIL and Doodad. Our plans now are that we arrive back home about the time Youngest returns to the school.

I am feeling a bit hungry this morning. Usually I skip breakfast, or have a few bites of whatever we have in leftovers. I see there are none this morning though. Also, I am craving some soda - or carbonation of some kind. I think  I should get up and go up to the QT and get my 52-oucer full of Mountain Dew, then grab a couple rollers in the food area. Yeah, now I am more hungry thinking about it.

The Weekend is Upon US

Saturday has arrived, and I am the only one awake at 5:30am to start enjoying it. Not that I want to up this early, just the old body decided it had enough sleep and it was time. Nothing major really planned. I know I need to get to the pharmacy to get my prescriptions (the Wife said she has one for pick-up as well). I kind of want to get over to the Discount Grocery to see what they have this week, and also the regular Fry's for some soda. So in a couple hours I may be doing some errands. The Wife mentioned last night she wants to get some more of her flowers planted. I suggested she get the Youngest out there and see about some trimming/mowing, too, but doubt that will happen.

The Wife heard from the Daughter that her and her family will be up this weekend! The Wife has been down their way a couple times since I was last able to see them. Not that my Doodad wants anything to do with her Papaw at this stage, but I do love her so and enjoy seeing her. As well as the Daughter and SIL. I had emailed him this last week finally, giving him some spec ideas I want put into a custom build PC that he has agreed to help with. I don't have all the tech and know-how, and he has done both computers they have. He knows where to shop and how to build it. I just gave him 'what I want's, and gave him a financial ceiling. Can't wait for a few months and get this new one.

Work is still flowing. Yesterday when I logged in, I had work specified for me. My TL had to leave early, and no other work had been added, so when I finished what I had been assigned, I logged for the day. Didn't hit my weekly 40, but at least I am still working. She had mentioned that come Monday there would be more for me, no problem. Yay to that.

Father's Day is coming up in a couple weeks. I guess when I go to the pharmacy, I'll see if they have cards out yet, and get one for PT. Maybe a gift card for a local restaurant, or a pre-paid Visa to go with. Would have time to mail it since I don't get out their way much. When we did the late BDay dinner with the Oldest Son. he and I were talking about whiskeys at one point. I mentioned that one day I would have to get him down to the VFW to try out the Devil's Devil by Jesse James Dupree. They have a case on order and might be in by that Sunday. So we made arrangements for he and I to meet up Father's Day for a couple hours and go down and try some. I was there the other day, and the Chairman made a call to find out when it was going to arrive for me, but had to leave a message, so not sure at this point. Good stuff that whiskey is. Made with capuscian (sp?) peppers for the cinnamon taste, gives it a nice warm bite.

Welp, I got not much to add, I suppose. For RM, while at the VFW talking to a bud named Jon, he said he was flying his brother out here from McMinnville, TN. I mentioned that you were from that area, and said '"Thar's a lotta dem Rigsbys down in that area", and he mentioned the last name, but I can't remember it, and added that the families prolly knew each other. Just one of them 'small thoughts' things....

"It Comes In Threes" They Say ....

This past Sunday, the Wife received a text message from the Daughter. It seems both she and the SIL were feeling poorly (fever, feeling blah, etc) biut my Doodad seemed to be feeling fine. Later another text came in that the SIL had used one of the at-home Covid tests, and it showed positive for him. The curb-side testing was scheduled for the Daughter and Doodad for Monday. Monday I got a text that now Doodad was having a fever and not feeling well, and then later on, I got the text that yes, all three of them had tested positive for Covid. Sigh. The plan had hopefuilly been that they would be up to visit this next week while Doodad was on break, but that is now changed. Sigh. I do feel for them....

The Youngest's marching band competition went well. They placed third in their division (out of the seven bands there). Their next competition is a week from Saturday at NAU. Only another month and a half until marching season is over - and so are the extra night practices we have to be sure we are available to take/pick him up. Plus the Friday football games. I should be used to it, having had three kids do this for four years each, and this is the Youngest's third year. I'm happy to say, there is only one mor eyear left of it.

Saturday, RM and I plan to meet up for breakfast. She suggested Black Bear Diner, which is about halfway between our homes. I haven't beenthere in awhile, and before, it had generally been for dinners. I'm looking forward to seeing their breakfast menu, and time with RM, of course.

Still dealing with adjustments to my medication changes. the end of last week showed me doing multiple express travels to the restroom. This week, that has resumed regular traveling speeds and necessity. I spent most of yesterday feeling nauseous, though not quite to the point of throwing up. I asked the Wife to bring home some Sprite to hopefully settle the stomach (it did). This morning I am feeling just a touch of nausea, but will see what happens since I just took my meds for the day. I do have some Sprite leftover just in case ... if it really helps with it.

I guess it is time to start trying to figure out Christmas stuff. We haven't had much of a chance to get presents early, though I know we have a few small items for Doodad. Seems we always find something to get her, and say for bday or Christmas, but end up just giving it to her because. I do have a couple ideas for the kids, that I will order this month to be sure they arrive in time. Others I will have to think of something. I'm sure Saturday I will be asking RM for ideas for her and PT, though each year it is usually the same stuff (PT-socks, sweatshirts, etc; RM nothing...as a rule). I know I am pretty much the same way - nothing for me. If anyone asks, I usually say beef jerky, or pickles, or similar.

That reminds me I have something for RM I will need to remember to bring Saturday morning. I could hold onto it until Christmas, but I picked this up a while back, and just haven't had the chance to get it to her. Just a little 'something'. I know when she reads this she will get a little excited, as she loves little unexpected gifts (don't we all?).

Welp, I got nothing much else to share at the moment, so guess I should mosey on and figure what I am going to do today. Think I might head to the VFW this afternoon depending on how I am feeling.

Another Friday

This has been such an uneventful week. I guess in some ways that has been a good thing. Wouldn't want cataclysmic events happening every other time I turn around.

Did the Doc appointment Monday. Everything went as I figured. Increased BP meds, added a second diabetic pill, ordered new labs. I finally got in and did the labs yesterday. They wanted a urine sample, too, which I thought was weird. I have never had to do that before for lab work. Sure, for job interviews, but this obviously was not job related. Shrug. I peed in their cup. Should here by the first of the week what the results are, and have a follow-up with the doc in early November. I'm sure the cholesterol pill will change in dosage at that time.

The Youngest has his first marching band competition this weekend out near Verrado - about 45 minutes plus away, way out on the west side of the valley. I haven't checked with the Wife if we are going or not. I know she likes to get to every competition she can - though I don't always go.

I had a chance earlier this week to have breakfast with the two older Sons. It was nice to take an hour or so and just sort of catch up with what is going on with them. I understand more and more why RM loves to do the same when I get a chance to ask her out. In fact, we are scheduled for next Saturday. I need to figure out what time and where we should go.

Having gone to Tucson last week, and attending the concert, I went to take the car through the car wash a few days ago, and found the Daughter's shawl/sweater in the backseat. I texted her asking if she was missing it, and told her I was holding it hostage until she brought Doodad up to visit. She of course responded she now had an excuse to go shoppping for another one.... but then later added that they might be up in October when Doodad is on break from school.

See how wonderfully drab this week has been? Maybe I can do better next week.

A Saturday Well Spent

It was nice to get out of town yesterday. To leave the confines of the house (aka workspace) and travel to a different region (slightly) of Arizona that adds a change of weather (very slightly) was somewhat ... refreshing. Of course, it is always good to see family as well. We left around 8-8:30 in the morning, and made good time to be there around 10:30. Of course, Doodad was being a stinker, and openly said she wanted to have nothing to do with me, but yet loved on her uncles and Mamaw. I'm not hurt. I think she loves me best and just is not comfortable showing it in front of everyone. I spent a part of the day watching a couple movies, then continued on to reading more of the current book. Interrupted for pizza for lunch, and few times of trying to get some attention from Doodad, to no avail. Uncle Youngests kept her attention though wearied of 'playing' constantly. Middle Son and SIL disappeared into their office to play some video game they are trying out. Cookies were made, which Youngest brought some home. I resisted the urge and did not have any - have to watch the sugar ya know. Finally as rounds of hugs were going round, I got some love from Doodad, and my day was complete. The ride home was uneventful, though there were some road closures due to the later hour. Nothing I did not expect, and knew enough of the East Valley freeways I could easily skirt it all.

Today finds me up early. I was awakened around 5:30 this morning with my elbow rubbing against sandpaper. Or rather more direct, a cat was licking my elbow. Said cap got a prompt scooting off the bed, and I discovered I was probably not going to make a return to sleep. I was hhpoing to make it to 8:30, but, you know, the best laid plans .... So I am up, did my sugar and BP counts (both about normal for me at the dosages I am at). A little later this morning I will be going up to the car wash to get all the bug smears off the windshield and a good wash, then headed to the pub. Today starts NFL on Sundays, and myself with a couple friends decided we would meet for the early game then go our ways each Sunday. Two of us have teams that have the early game throughout most of the season, so that will be nice.

Back to work on Monday, though not sure how much longer this project will be. I'm guessing Wednesday ... maybe Thursday at this point. Afterwards, they will probably move us to another project, or report us back to recruiting to be open for the next one. Honestly, I feel like I could use a few days off, but won't ask for them if on a project. Then again maybe I will. I have plenty of time off pay accrued...

We will be returning to Tucson later this month. The Wife bought tickets for a band called The LoBros, which we had seen about a year ago. The 25th is their last concert before disbanding and moving on to other things. Pretty talented brass players that put on a good show. Wife had got some tickets and I think the SIL, Daughter and us are going. IT's a Sunday (ugh) and I am sure I will be driving back fairly late in the day. That's sort of when I hope I don't have a project for Monday...

Welp, it's barely after 6am, so I should go get my regular stuff done. Enjoy your day!

Another Birthday!

Today marks the 5th birthday of my Doodad. The Daughter had sent several pictures tomy phone yesterday, and Doodad is just getting bigger all the time. I texted with the Daughter a bit, making plans to do a video call at some point early this afternoon, after Doodad is home from Pre-K. PApaw has to call and say Happy Birthday! Still don't know when I will be able to give her the gift I got. Depends on when we go down there, they come up here, or something.

So shortly after I posted yesterday, the day kinda got shot. I received a call from the Doctor's office needing to reschedule my appointment as the Dr was out sick yesterday. So that changed to Friday. I had to change the lab appointment from Tuesday to next Monday. I had hoped to get this all done while having the rental the insurance covers. Of course not. So the Wife and I decided I would turn it in on Wednesday, then rent out another for a week - but we will have to pay for this one. It's more convenient than doing a Lyft/Uber to my appointments and home. Probably cheaper over all, too.

I guess that means today I will just get through my workday, make my call, and mellow out at home. I went out yesterday since my afternoon was free, and met up with a friend. We talked about maybe meeting up tonight, at the pub that has my Derpy Dogs vendor, but I don't know if I feel like it. That could change though.

Easing Into It

Later in the afternoon yesterday, I got that email. The one I had been waiting to hear if I made it to the project this week. Thankfully, it did include a time the managers wanted to have the incoming people in a meeting, to briefly go over the details that vary on these jobs. It is nice to say that I got to sleep in as the meeting isn't until late in the morning. I did get up early though and logged into the system to make sure I had access to the programs and documents needed. That all checked out this morning, so logged back out until the meeting time.

There was another email from the Company earlier last week. From the HR department, stating they were creating a new way for the employees to show when they are AVAILABLE to work projects. Supposedly this new way of doing things will alert them better about who (and what skills) are able to work. It stated each time we email in our availability to include a new/current resume. I guess I will have to dig in the archives of my external drive to see if I can find my last one, then update it to show this company for the past year and a half. Such a pain.

Doodad's birthday is coming up this next month, so Saturday I decided I needed to start looking around for a gift for her. Which means flipping through Amazon to see what they got. After being on there awhile I did find her a toy I think she would like, and that isn't noisy or overly destructive. I should send a link so that the Daughter will know and give final approval (even though I ordered it Saturday, and it arrived yesterday). I'm just playing nice asking for the approval - either way Doodad will get it. Papaw's rights!

Early last week I had paid up the next two years on the Wife's car registration, and mine is due before the end of the month. I had been looking at specialty plates, and personalizing the plate for my car. After several days of thinking how to personalize, within the specs allowed, and the Wife came up with one that I liked. So did all that this weekend and expect the plate and tags probably later this week. Did a VFW Auxiliary plate, so each year, 17.50 of the $25 I pay for the plate goes to AZ VFW Aux. fund. Not to my direct post, but the state general fund.

Been eye-ballin' the littl' clocky-thingy in the bottom right corner, and need to get this closed off and logged into work.

Wasting Time

Another week has come and gone. I am still waiting to hear from the Company about any work. I did receive an email from them around Wednesday, basically telling me I was terminated in the system. It is an automatic feature if one has not received a payslip within a two week period. Basically, after three weeks, you get terminated in the system, which cuts off access tot he virtual desktop we work from. This can be changed once you are assigned to a project, etc, etc. It happened once to me before, as I was just starting into a project and it cost a day of working while they figured out what happened.

The Daughter had a car accident the other day. Fortunately no one was hurt. Seems the brakes had locked up and failed to stop the vehicle. There was some front end damage, hood sort of crushed up, and definitely radiator damage. The car was a 2000, and more than likely is totaled. The other person is not hurt, and I have no idea what damage(s) to their vehicle was. The fault goes to my Daughter, and I don't even know if the police were called or if they just settled it between the two of them. Either way, their plan to purchase a newer vehicle just got stepped up quite a bit. Daughter had mentioned, she had been telling Doodad reasonings for why she has to be buckled in the car, over the past several weeks. One of the first things Doodad said after the accident, was something along the lines of 'And that's why I wear my seatbelt!'

I'm a little sore this morning. I came up with the brilliant plan to do something together as a family while the Youngest was on school break. So we went and played putt-putt golf. It had been ages since I had played, and I thought he might like it. The three of went up to the Castles 'n Coasters near out house (small amusement park at the local mall area) and payed $13 per person to play one round of golf. When did it get so expensive?? I thin when I was in high school it was like $2/round. Anyways, we played. It was fun watching Youngest get the idea of how to swing the club, force, angle, etc as the game went on. Afterwards we went to the only regular buffet I know in town, Golden Corral. On the ay home, I asked Youngest if he had "fun". Yeah, I guess I did was his reply. I'll chalk that up as one for Dad with a good idea. Maybe another time I will get out the golf clubs, and we go to a course to hit a bucket of balls to let him really swing.

Oldest Son texted me earlier this week, letting me know he has requested the day off for when we do the Santa Run. I told him I hope he doesn't have an early shift the day after it! I guess I am playing Santa for my brother's Army unit in early December. I have been tentatively asked to help out the VFW's motorcycle club for a Christmas run they do, delivering presents to certain kids at their homes. But I have not heard anything new for sure as of yet. Found out Tuesday they asked someone else to play Santa at the Post Christmas party. Wasn't sure how to feel about that one, so not too worried. I'd rather a couple hours in the suit than the whole night.

Welp, I guess I should get off here and try to get something done today.

Day Tripping

Today, rather now, yesterday, was our trip down to Tucson. We arrived just before noon, and had fun talking, visiting and playing with the Daughter and family. Doodad was a bit less energetic (from what the Wife told me of her day trip a couple weeks earlier) but she was still so full of energy. I remember a younger me having more energy than I do now, and still can't imagine having as much energy that Doodad has. I am sure I was just as bad when I was her age.

The Daughter is turning Thursday this week, so we also took down some birthday presents we had gotten for her. And since we had the chance, we took the family and a favorite Niece out to dinner to celebrate her day. Nice place called Guadalajara Mexican, and it seemed to specialize in southern Mexican cuisine. Many dishes I had never heard of, so I got to try a new one.... and it was different! I had a Molcajete Ultimo, which is 4 jumbo shrimp, steak, and chicken breast all packed into a molcajete with bell peppers, onions and queso fresco simmering in a molcajete sauce. In short, it was that all literally boiling in a bowl-shaped lava-looking rock - and I mean boiling! Add a side plate with beans and rice, some flour tortillas - and whew! It was good. Another thing that was cool, is when they do the chips/salsa before your meal, the 'salsa lady' comes around to your table with a cart, and asks if you want salsa, or guacamole, and then prepares it right in front of you. On recommendation from the SIL, we tried a medium salsa, and it was awesome!

Most times we go down, the Daughter and Wife spend much of the time together talking crafts and whatever. This time around the Daughter put me on the spot more, wanting to know more about what is going with me. So was uncomfortable a bit. I usually don't have the kids asking me about my health, or work, or about other things that are bothering me right now. Today she did, and it actually felt good to fill her in, and to let her know that she is not responsible for anything I do/say for my benefit, and she could make her own decisions regarding things.

So was a very good day trip, and we made it home around 11pm. Doodad was sad we had to go home, and said we could sleep there. When asked where we would sleep, Papaw had to sleep on the couch and Mamaw would sleep in her bed with her. I always get the shit end of that deal, I guess. But it was funny. Am looking forward to spending Thanksgiving with them this year, and hope the Boys will be able to within their work schedules.

The Wife was sound asleep within 20 minutes of us getting home, but I find I cannot drop off to slumberland. I am just physically and mentally tired, but things just won't shut down for me tonight. So I am back to trying to bore myself (writing here) and see what happens. May have to watch some dumb videos or something.

Things to Do, That Won't Get Done Prolly

I went out for a bit last night, but was home fairly early. The usual guys I hang out with evidently weren't hanging out, so I read for about 3 hours or so, and enjoyed a couple (few) beers. I noticed I am now 32 books ahead of my schedule for the year.

RM loved the surprise I brought to our lunch yesterday. I hadn't mentioned it here, as I was afraid she may see it before we met up - I brought Doodad along with me. RM doesn't get to see her Great-Grandchild that often due to the family's obligations/plans so I freed up the Daughter to have some non-child time with the Wife, and took Doodad to lunch with me.RM was sure surprised, and I loved it.

Thinking about the twenty-million things that need to get done around the house, and where to start. Can't do that, until this is done... that's buried behind this other stuff, that can't be moved until we move that over there. It's frustrating at times. So at 11am I sit here and type this out. I already wasted some time on social media, too. I haven't decided if I am going to play some Warcraft, or grab my list of books/authors to check around to see if any new books are out, etc. Either one will probably last most of the afternoon.

At some point today, or tomorrow morning, I need to compose an email for Work. I don't know what is going on over there. I was told Wed I was 'rolling into a new project' Thursday - meeting at am. That was delayed for two hours, and then we were told we would get an email "if" we were rolled into the project. I still haven't heard anything. So I will email and let them know I finished that project last week, and I am available for anything new that comes along. Sigh. Hopefully it won't be too long of a waiting period.

Weekend Soak-Up

Whew! It truly rained all day long yesterday! One of those good ones, where it is just a steady rain and not the deluge that creates floods. AZ could sure use rains like this more often.

Date night was good. We tried a BBQ place called Pork on the Fork. It is is a small place in a business complex, and if we had not specifically been watching for it by the address, we would have never found the place. Oh it was good! Wife had a brisket bowl, with mac n' cheese and green beans. I opted for a sandwich: the one pound 'Midwest Monster' which was brisket, with pulled pork (1 lb worth) topped with jalapenos and a creamy white queso (cheese) to top it off. Had to eat it with a knife and fork. Prices were very compatible for the type of food and the servings were good sized. We can order up to 5 pounds of pulled pork at any time to take home as well!!

Friday was a usual day. No word from the Company about my next project. Went up to the VFW for karaoke and to hang out with my brother. His wife and he had brought up the two of their youngest, so I actually spent some time with the nephew and niece, too. This morning I am getting ready to head out to an early lunch with RM at Coco's - I didn't know we had anymore of them in town, but evidently there is one out near her place. I got about 20 minutes before I head out for that.

Got to see the Daughter and Doodad yesterday. She had been in town helping a friend and came by to visit. Feels like forever since I had seen them, though it had only been a few weeks. They'll be back up Wednesday for the day of dental appointments (they like the dentist up here). Then I don't know when we will see them again. Probably in a month when I decide to do a day trip or something.

Alright, well I am out of here for now.

It's a Little Depressing

Friday morning, The Wife packed several boxes and some clothes into her vehicle. Then she climbed in and drove away. I didn't see it, as I was back in our computer room playing Warcraft that morning. Maybe that was why she left me? Naw... she was headed down to Tucson to spend some extra time with the Daughter (Doodad was an added bonus). I don't want to over-share, but the Daughter had recently started to get the feeling of being overwhelmed, as some parents can relate to, in regards to being around young children with no adult interaction, or alone time, etc. So The Wife had decided she was going down to give Daughter more adult interaction. I didn't mind. The two younger Sons were going down with me on Saturday, as we had a concert we were attending then anyways.

So Saturday, as I said, the boys and I drove down about mid day. The Youngest played and entertained Doodad, the Middle Son sat and talked with the SIL about computer and board games they like. I pretty much sat on the couch and played some games on my tablet. The concert was a little early - about 6pm, so was over by 8'ish. Just The Wife, Daughter, Middle Son, and I attended (more adult time for Daughter). Place called the Gaslight Theater, and it was nice. Our table (yes, table seating) was 10 feet from the stage. You could order food/drinks (which I was happy about - stomach was growling, and I was thirsty). The group we watched was LoBros, who are local to the area. They were playing hits from groups that influence their music (Chicago, Earth Wind and Fire, Blood Sweat and Tears, etc) with that 70's kind of brass band sound. They also intermix classical music into other genres, like samba music. It was very entertaining, and very enjoyable.

We did both drive home late into the night, arriving around 12:30. This morning found us sleeping in a little bit more than usual due to being a bit more tired - not so much of the late hour, but the driving, etc. Not much on today's agenda.

The Wife had made bread & butter pickles last week. Couple decent-sized Tupperware containers of, anyways. I was told I could have some before she left, but with the stipulation, I had to tell her which one tasted better. To answer that more fully, she had made two batches: one using a recipe from the internet she had found, the other being RM's recipe. I truly didn't get around to this taste-test, but Last night, The Wife brought out two smaller containers from the Daughter's fridge. The Wife brought them down for them to taste. So of course I had to do it as well. It was an easy taste test - I picked RM's within seconds of tasting the second option. It was distinctive in the taste. But we did agree the internet recipe were a bit crisper due to it being a recipe that only called for the mix to set in the fridge for 24 hours, versus RM's recipe is a heated mixture. RM still for the win though, IMO.

I didn't get much Doodad time yesterday. I am a little upset by it, but what can I expect? She is only 4 years old, and having a young uncle that can (and is willing) to run around with you, etc.... slow-moving Papaw is going to lose every time. I'll wait a couple more years when she will appreciate the time with me better, I guess.

Almost noon here, so I suppose I should ask the Wife what are plans for lunch. I know I'm hungry. For some reason got chicken sandwich with pickles on my mind this morning....

Feeling Good - Well, Better, Anyways

I've been up all of  minutes this morning, and I am waiting to find out how I am feeling, health-wise, today. Why do I have to wait? Am I not able to tell from the *snap, crackle, pop* of getting out of bed for morning absolutions? Sometimes yes, most times no. I wear a CPAP at night to help with my apnea, and when it comes to my allergies, or anything sinus related, I have to wait sometimes up to an hour afterward removing the CPAP to find out how I am going to be. The CPAP just makes breathing so much easier, with the cleaner air (filter). So far, it feels like maybe the sinuses have finished that final "running" from the head cold. I am sure I will know soon.

As I stated yesterday, I did get a new project for work. It is supposed to last only a handful of days, but I started in on this one at a higher pay grade (bonus). I do not know if I will proceed to a more detailed position for this project after this stage, but have the qualifications for it at least. If not, it will be off to another one. This week with a bit of a later start, I can work as many hours as needed (daily) as I won't hit the 40 hours/week (bonus). Plus, the operation hours for this one are based on Eastern time, so I can start as early as I want (bonus).

Doodad's birthday is coming up next week, and I just haven't found her a special 'Papaw gift'. The Wife found a wonderful idea for not only her birthday, but Mother's Day for the Daughter, and Father's Day for the SIL. I was thrilled about that, so at least we have a back-up, as well as the forty-three thousand other things we bought her (exaggerating, just a little). I remember the In-Laws, and my own parents showering our first with gifts upon gifts, as for both sides, it was like the first grandchild.

Anyways, seems I am still having some nasal drainage (great to hear about from someone else first thing in your day, right?) and it is making me cough a little. guess another day of OTC cold pills to help. Off to start the work day!

Just *SHM* (Shaking My Head)

I headed over to RM's blog this morning, and now I am sitting here, literally, just *smh*. Part of her post (rant?) today was about my cousin ... the one that had "moved" out here last year at the urgings of my brother. They were close in age growing up, and got along well. That was when they were kids. now both of them are messed up in the head. Anyways, RM mentioned some of the things that have 'gone on/been happening' with the Cousin, and how she is frustrated at how he is - about dealing with others, himself with his meds, etc, and that she is "ready to tell him to pack up and move back to Indiana". And I snicker. Yes, at my Mother. I knew this day was coming, and am not the least bit surprised. Family or not, I am tired of his antics, and told my brother Months ago to send the Cousin 'home'.

I have always considered myself a 'Family Man', though, I guess once you think about it, in some ways I am not. I distance myself from my family - my siblings especially. One is a drama queen, and the other is a 'better than thou' and I have grown to hate that about both of them. I try to keep an open line of communication with them, but don't reach out, or visit, them at all. I live my life, and lead my family, in so much of a different way. I even jokingly tell RM that I was adopted, because I am so different than the two siblings. We laugh at that, as we know I truly wasn't adopted. It was more being raised separately and differently than the sibs were, and having different life events/choices growing up in the childhood years. At least, that's all I can think of.

Speaking of family, we did a trip down to Tucson yesterday. I woke that morning and told the Wife and Youngest to get up we were going. Spent the day with Doodad and family. Got back home last night about 11pm. I was tired! But I did get to play with the Doodad for a bit, and just watching her play makes my heart swell with love. The Daughter was busy trying to finish up a craft project she had a deadline for, so didn't get to spend time with me until later in the day. The Wife of course was by her side the whole time chatting away. I watched TV, and Doodad. Even the SIL and I had time to sit and chit-chat. Not sure when the next time they will be up or we will go down there to visit. Daughter gave the Youngest his Bday gift early, in case they don't make it up before March.

Super Bowl game is here today. Whoopee. I just have not been into watching any football this year. With the forced mascot/name change for my Washington team, and the whole playing the BLM anthem before games in the early part of the season, I just gave up on football. I heard that Wash. won the division, but lost the first playoff game. So I have no horse in today's race, and care for neither team. A close friends BIL used to do a nice SB party but had to stop doing it the last few years due to the health of his wife. I'm sure most pubs will have drink specials and those that have food will do specials for that as well. But I ain't going. I think I will spend today playing Warcraft, and deciding on what to load up on my tablet for reading. I'm four books ahead of schedule for my goal. Just finishing up the Jesse Stone series that was started by Robert B. Parker - the guy that created 'Spenser for Hire' series. I might read those next. There are about 30 of them.

Alrighty, time to move on to something else today besides writing here.

The Great Convergence

I have seen many posts about it on Facebook, about the converging  alignment (or something-or-other) of the planets Jupiter and Saturn, that is supposed to happen today. More specifically, at duck, in the SE direction (?)I believe. In fact, this morning I saw a LIVE  Youtube feed recording the planets thru some high  telescopes so people could watch them align while doing something else. Supposedly, this is 2 of the three planets that aligned, and reflected the sunlight in such a way, it was considered the biblical Eastern Star that the three wise men followed to find the baby Jesus. Today, it is only 2 planets, and it supposedly hasn't happened since like 1292. I don't have time to see what major historical event may have happened that year, but wonder about this year. Already hearing theories, of why it is happening this year, based on current events, and many suppisitions of what it will foretell.

I think it means I will be working and doing what I need to do.

Got to spend some time with D00dad yesterday before they returned to their home. They will be back up Friday for the holiday, though I am still trying to figure out what times to be where. They only Christmas meet-up on hold it seems is our family one. We may end up doing it like RM does, though, there is only one family we would have to do separate. I don't know yet. Guess I will talk to the Wife whenever she gets her ass out of bed today... maybe before 10.

Time to start getting ready for work, though it is an hour away. That means the morning drink, a pop tart and probably a smoke.

Waiting on a Woman

Today's post title is a song title as well. A song sung by Brad Paisley, a country/Western singer, that has quite a few songs out that I enjoy. Some are humorous songs, and others are serious. This one is a little of both. I particularly like the video that was done for this song as it portrays Brad as the young man, and Andy Griffith as the older gentleman. I'll try to post the video at the end.

But there I was yesterday, just waiting on a woman. A young woman, about three years old. I was hoping that the Daughter and Doodad would show up prior to going to RM's house for Christmas baking, but that didn't happen. The oldest Son showed up close to 3pm to pick up the youngest, and get directions. Then it was just the Wife and I until about 10pm. I don't know when they finished the "Baking with Grandma" night, but it was late (to me) when they got back to our house.

I guess there was some driving around looking at Christmas lights involved (I heard). I wasn't angry, just tired, as I was up past my bedtime a little. I had been fighting falling asleep the last hour or so. But I finally got to see my Doodad! Of course, she was being the silly little girl she is and wouldn't give me loves. I finally got a hug from her after the Wife had seen I was going to bed (they were still here in the other room talking). They are heading back home today sometime, so I am hoping to see them for a bit today prior to their departure. Will hope to find out their plans for Christmas, so we can make plans accordingly.

Christmas is this week. That means it is going to be a week of crap. I need to work at least the four days before. No biggee. Need to wrap this week. Figure what I am going to do for that last present for the Wife. Fun. Anyways, here's that video..... RM make sure you watch and listen!

Time, Time, Time

It's that time again. Turkey Time! And that means Commercial Holiday Time to follow.... which I hate. Never understood why a holiday to celebrate the birth that is part of one of the world's largest religions, had to be commercialized to a requirement of "giving" presents. Maybe it is just the "shopping hate" I feel about it all. I don't know. No use in analyzing it. I don't know if I will ever enjoy a commercialized holiday.

So I had mentioned how my project was extended. More time to make more money. That helps! We had a meeting yesterday about time - and how the holiday this week shortens our paychecks. We have the option of working Sat & Sun to make up the time, or longer hours M, T, or W. Friday we will need to work, yet they cut the time available for work to a 7 hour period, so even for the hours for 4 days, I would have to work extra on the weekend. I mentioned to the Wife I may work 5-6 hours this weekend, and then just call it a week, though short of 40 hours. The meeting also brought up about if everyone had other plans, since the project was extended past the original set time, were vacations, etc going to beother anyone with getting in 40 hours a weeks still.

I got some time in with Doodad last night, though, being silly, she didn't want to have much to do with Papaw, until her snuck her a candy. Then we were buds again. The returned to Tucson last night. Probably won't be back until closer to Christmas. The two older Sons are moving today. The oldest needs to be out of his place today, and I guess they finalized on the new one. I know they are getting a smaller U-haul this morning to move the bed. I wonder if they will do the middle Son's today as well. I found this all out last night. I guess them growing up they don't need Dad's help or advice anymore.

Breakfast time for me now. I need to eat something (meaning a couple granola bars) and then get ready to work.

Been A Decent Week

It is only Wednesday (Hump Day!) but already this week has been nice. One of my nieces had her first child (a girl) born yesterday. I'm happy for the new parents, and wish there were not so many restrictions due to Covid, as her parents, and grandparents, could be at the hospital for the event. It will all work out fine in the end though, and I'm sure there will fighting amongst them all - in regards to who gets to hold the little one, etc.

Also, today through our daily meeting online, I found out that this project I am working has been extended at least a minimum of two more weeks. Originally it was slated to be completed this week, but I guess the client underestimated the amount of data we have to review. They have even added more people to our teams. I also found out that they have started running daily "stats" on each of us. Basically to calculate the number of documents we review in 'X' amount of time, and also if any mistakes show up through the Quality Checks. I haven't heard anything bad in regards to myself, but based on what they mention as the average curve they want people to be striving for right now, I am definitely in the higher percentage that processes through documents. These stats also base on how fast we get moved/hired onto other projects when this one ends. Possibly the type of review, or how in-depth it needs to be done, could also ne included.

So right now, I'm feeling pretty good.

Our water heater here at the house has been on the fritz for several months now. The pilot light would only stay lit for unexpected amounts of time. It would be no surprise to have a morning shower with nothing but cold water. Or even just to have hot water for the dishes, or laundry. The water heater is in a "enclosed laundry room" and is against the west wall, so through the summer it wasn't too bad. With temps in the 115+ range, it heated the water pretty well. But now it has gotten cooler, and since some money has happened our way, we had it replaced finally... and today was the day. I expected them after thee noon hour (as I was told) but got a call that they ended up here about 10:30 this morning. I imagined even with taking the time to drain it (about 20-25 minutes) they would be done and gone within 2 hours. He was here until almost 3:30 this afternoon. I finished up work today about 5:30, and went to the restroom. I turned on the hot water at the sink and let it run a couple minutes. It's not hot... or warm... I went to the kitchen.... same thing. I'm thinking he forgot to turn the flow back on, or something. I went and got a flashlight to go take a look...then had a better thought. Back to the bathroom, and I let it run longer. finally after a few minutes its started to feel warmer, then got hot. Must have just been the residual water in the lines from before, so will need to run them all a bit to tap into the hot water. Showers too. It'll be nice to have a steaming shower versus just a lukewarm one...

Daughter, Doodad and family are coming up this weekend. I was told they have plans Saturday, but Sunday we could figure out something. They have dental appointments on Monday, then will return home. Thanksgiving they are spending with the SIL's family. No plans for us as of yet. Dennys is usually open on holidays, so I won't be surprised to be there considering it is looking like maybe only 3-4 of us.

On to other things.... I'm at 165 books in my reading goal of 175 for the year (11 books ahead of schedule). With working now, I find that it takes me a day or two longer to get a normal sized book finished. I may have to adjust the goal lower for next year....
