It can only get better if you let it

That's my mantra today. Enough of everyone bringing me down with all the negative crap I am hearing and having to give around this office. Screw that. I am doing everything I can - nothing more can be expected, or done. If it is not enough, then you should make a business decision and fire me or something. But I ain't telling them that... no way!

I'm feeling in a much better mood after reading a few blogs, and hearing how some people are really enjoying themselves (Eric), and Freddie is now prepping for a couple nice vacation days. I wish my vacation was sooner. July seems so far off!

Allright, I am off to lunch. I am leaving this office for the next hour and going to enjoy myself. I just don't know where to go to eat. Maybe I'll do Arbys today... I haven't eaten there in awhile.

Welcome to HellDay

Yes today is Hell Day as it is final day of EOM. I have been in the office 20 minutes and have been "told" to close 3 files today. Ain't Happening! I only have one to do, the others ain't even close!! Owners don't like that answer, but what can I do?

Reverend Mother calls me yesterday. She has my home made salsa ready and available. She is dropping it by tonight after church. I guess I need to stop and get some tortilla chips on my way home tonight. I have a feeling I will be watching a movie and eating chips.

Okay, I got to get some work done this morning. I shall be back later....

EOM : 1 day to go

February is generally a bad month in the loan business. You have a straight 4 weeks whic is shorter than the usual 4 1/2, and the time just flies through faster. I think it has to do with holidays that the Gov't is shut down, and the banks, that occur in the first two months that throws the timing off of everything. So here I am, I have one deal that needs 1 final condition from the borrower, and she is leaving March 3rd for 2 weeks. Will it get done? With only 1 day left this month? I am not even going to try to figure the odds....

So last night was my youngest Son's bday. He turned 1 year old. I downloaded the pics from the camera last night, but forgot to transfer to bring to post. I will have to try to do that tomorrow. We kept the party down to just our household. Of course I was late. I had stopped for a drink and it turned into a few. No one was mad though. I mean, he isn't going to remember if Daddy was there for the cake (which I don't eat anyways).

Now my next big dilemma - where to go for lunch. The Wife had made a portion from last night's dinner for me to bring today - but I forgot about it. So now I am hungry, and need to figure where I am going to go. I think today sounds like a 5 & Diner day - it's a '50s type restaurant. Okay, that is solved now.

Nothing else is crossing my mind to be interesting enough to talk about. I am headed to the bar for sure after work - maybe something interesting will happen there.

Weekend Recap - wonder if I really should...

Since I last shared with you last week, it seems a lot has happened, but looking back, it really wasn't much. Sort of the regular weekend thing I have going on, for the most part. Saturday we had a poker party, and for the first time in several meets, I was not the first person out!! I finally was like 3rd out, but I broke my streak! And was trashed too... though I don't know why I would celebrate that.

Sunday morning I woke up feeling fine, which IS unusual after the amount of Jack I drank Saturday night. I fixed up some of my favorite Tennessee Tea (Lipton and Jack) and headed to the ball park. It was the last day oif tournament, and my team played at 8am. This was the first week where we had someone new taking over the coach position for the team, and would be his debut. I don't know if it was a good one, or not. We had only 8 players, instead of the regular 10 as 4 people did not show up at all. But we scored more in this one game, than we did the whole season per game. So less people, more hits, more runs, but still a loss and that eliminated us from the tournament. We'll probably start again in 2-3 weeks and play double-headers each Sunday until May/June when it gets too hot out here to play.

After the ballgame, I headed to Bullocks where I spent the afternoon watching Nascar. I had Robby Gordon for the pool, and of course he didn't place anywhere I needed him too. After that I went home and took the family out for dinner, then crashed when we got home. Thought, get a good nights sleep. No. I forgot I had to get up at 6 to take the daughter to school, then when the wife went to leave, the van had a aflat tire, and the tool to lower the spare, change the lugs and up the jack could not be found. Seems it came up missing the last time when we took the van into get the last tire fixed.

It's been a pretty shitty Monday so far. At least over half the day is gone, and I actually have little bits of work here and there to accomplish. Then I do believe it is going to be bar time. Hopefully I'll have something more interesting for you tomorrow..

Math Lesson for Jan

My buddy Jan is in need of some basic math instruction. As we sat Tuesday night in the bar, this discussion came up and I told him I would locate the theorem to prove my point. Well, Jan ol buddy, here it is for you to see. If you click on it, it may get bigger so you can read it better.

I still get a good laugh everytime I read this!! Now you understand, Grasshopper. Live on vicariously.

Wow, work is done and I still have half a day to go. Back to square one they say.

Lack of Brain space for Friday

In the meantime, y'all take care. I have added some new links for ya to check out, unless you already have them. I snagged some from GuyK and some from Freddie. See, I actually look at your link lists!!

Band Geeks of the World - UNITE!

Since Freddie was asking, I figured I could do a little post about my band geekiness, and those around the world that share these types of memories.

As a youngster, about 3rd grade, I was fascinated by singers and instruments that played low. So that year I started playing tuba music, but due to my size, actually used a baritone. By 7th grade I had sized-up enough to handle an actual tuba. I continued playing tuba throughout high school, being a member of the marching band and everything else I could do: pit orchestra for school plays, tutors for Jr high band students, Regional and State bands, etc. My senior year I even took Jazz band and played bass trombone.

Even now I can think back and remember some of the different trips we would take for band competitions. My buds and I would sneak out of whatever place we were and try to find some trouble, go joy-riding in some security golf cart, etc.

Being in band was a good way for me to stay in shape as well. During marching season, as we practiced on the field, and the director was working with a different section, if we got caught goofing off you had to run a lap around the field - with your instrument. I got alot of running in those four years, enough I lost the chunk in the middle I had, that I have now regained. It built up arm muscles my senior year, when we got rid of the sousaphones and bought marching basses. The difference is the sousaphone wraps around you, the bass is carried in front of you, and gets "snapped" onto your shoulder when playing. We are talking 45 lbs of brass, carried in front of you, while marching onto/off the field, into position, etc. I remember the cramps we would have after major performances... icy/hot never worked so good!

It's been 17 years now since I have last played a tuba. I have a trumpet at home I get out every now and then. I still want to get a trombone or a tuba, just too expensive at this time. My daughter has taken up clarinet, and in the next year or two, the oldest boy will have the option of taking up an instrument if he chooses. Right now he is more interested in learning guitar. I have gotten him up to 4 chords, and he can play them pretty good for an 8 yr old.

Anyways, enough of this for now. I'll have to try and remember some other band story later on.

You can't handle the - Oh, I guess you can.

I can't seem to drink enough water this morning. Already I have drank 64 oz. and have a can of Coke now. I know I didn't drink that much alcohol last night to dehydrate me this bad!

Speaking of alcohol, one of my favorite places to hang out at is now going to be scratched off my list I believe. They raised their prices. I almost shit when I got my tab last night. It was damn near double compared to my regular tab. Plus, they are being stingy on the pour. Nothing wrong with a little overage for a regular customer, I say. I don't know what I am going to do. Probably not go there as near often. And itwas close to home too....

Yesterday was a good day. I got my book order picked up in the morning so have a good 6-7 books to read. I got my cookies last night (even the home-made ones!) and they are tasty! Since yesterday was so good, I wonder how today will be... I was told I would be getting a couple of files today - don't see them yet. Otherwise that leaves me 1 - I repeat - 1 - file on my desk. I should be working 20-30 at a time. F'ing newbies.

Okay, I am getting out of here before I get more PO'ed than I need to be. Oh! Another good thing yesterday - got advanced discount tickets for DCI this June. For those of you that don't know, DCI is Drum Corps International. I love watching that stuff... course I was a band geek in high school.

The Reverend Mother has spoken!

Whoa! I made a comment in that last post I wasn't expecting the RM to see/read. I guess it slipped my mind that she does actually read this blog every now and then - probably when I am the bad son and not call her for weeks on end, and she wonders if I am dead or alive. Of course, she sees the Wife and kids off and on throughout the week and I am sure they would have told her if I were to pass away - plus the smell of decomposing flesh might be a dead give-away. Anyways, so I can look forward to some home-made salsa soon, too! Mom has got some of the best I like - not that really chunky stuff, and not watery - just right on the thickness and the hotness. Damn this is turning out to be a decent week - salsa, cookies, my book order came in last night, poker party on Saturday. Watch me get really sick tomorrow or something to ruin it all....

This article got me to wondering this morning. I grew up spending a few weeks in the summer in Paw Paw with my godparents. I might have even hung around one of these brothers, not know their full names. 'Course most time I probably spent fishing or out with my best friend Mike canoeing or whatnot. Bummer of a story either way.

Sometimes, there are even good things to read about in the world. Check this story out!

Another reason for people to watch how much they are drinking - especially around the sea! This fool provided his own insight as well!

A true moment of silence for this one. Co-inventor of remote control has passed away. Men grieve and praise at same time.

Well, some interesting articles I actually found today. Usually there is just that politics and Iraq stuff I get tired of reading about. Speaking of reading, I think I am off to do some of that, after all, it is 10am and I am at work.

It is so hard at times to be interesting....

Once again I am back to scribble some stuff - literally, since nothing great as a topic comes to mind. I went out and actually got away from the office for the lunch hour. Had a good sandwich at Blimpies and finished one book. Wish I could have had a beer with that sub. Would at least make the afternoon bearable. Three hours to go, .

Per the radio, it sounds like James Brown might FINALLY get to be buried. I know one of my buds had mentioned over the weekend that Vegas was laying odds on who would be buried first - James Brown or Anna Nicole. Looks like Mr. Brown is making the win - but then he had like 2 months head start.

Thanks to Freddie! You always make me feel a bit better - just when it is needed! And I also want to acknowledge Hoosierboy. Seems he feels those of us out here in the Western US don't read his important words. So if you are from the Western US, hit their sites to read 'em up. Nothing like reading about cold weather when it is 70+ degrees out. There are many other shout-outs, but I am too lazy to list them all. But a big THANK YOU for he referrals I get from y'all.

It's that time of year again. My sister calls me up on Sunday and says "Guess what?!? They're here!!" I was like, huh? Oh. Girl scout cookies. I don't remember ordering any. Six boxes? You sure? And now they are $4 a box?!? Jiminy Cricket! So I got my usual spread of Mint and Samoan, and a couple extra boxes that I knew the wife would want to purchase, PLUS - since I am the brother that I am, sis made some Macadamian Nut & white chocolate chip cookies, just for me. I suppose I need to get out there and get those before they harden up too bad. But then, that cool glass of milk will help soften them. How 'bout that Mom?!? When do I get some of your homemade stuff soon?!?

Okay, well I think I am off to bang my head in the wall for awhile. Y'all have fun now!

It's a Rainy Morning

It's Tuesday. It's raining. I am at work with nothing at present to do. Not are rainy days more like gloomy days (when I am at work) not having anything to do just seems to make it worse. It's just now coming up on 10 AM and I have done all the regular reads I do, plus a few others I hadn't read in a couple days. This is pathetic! At least I have a book and a spare in the car, until the next shipment arrives.

Okay, nothing much more of interest to talk about right now. I have a feeling I will be back and forth from here throughout the day.

Back to functioning

Damn! The computer and phones are up and working this Monday morning - compared to last Friday. Seems last week, Qwest dug up/ripped/cut/whatever to a trunk of their own phone lines, and had my office building and four others without internet, phone, or fax capability. Yeah, makes for a boring Friday, except I had to get paperwork out for 2 signings that day. Had to go to Kinko's to get the fax out and they charged me $26 for a 17 page fax - to a toll-free number!! Fuck them! I am NEVER going to Kinko's again! So 1 signing happened - the other didn't. I ended up at the bar by 1 and tried to drown my anger.

Saturday was good. We finished up the Pentathalon. Moi, took 2nd place in bowling ( I lost by only 9 pins from first, and 3 pins ahead of third - thanks for that $20 Jan!!). Then we went to the bar to finish with Pool, which I ended like 4th, and I took 5th over all events. If I remember correctly, Don took 1st, Eric 2nd and Jan 3rd. First place won $225 but had to pay the bar tab. So we all sat and drank, and drank, and when Don went to leave, the tab was $256, plus the tip. HeeHee!! Man I was trashed. I had some pictures, but the wife screwed up the camera and had to reformat the memory chip and I lost them.

Sunday was an okay day. Watched the team lose at softball. Then went out to watch the race where my driver in the pool may have lost me out of third due to the big-ass crash on the final lap. I am still awaiting offical results on the finishings. I'll be headed over to Nascar.com here shortly.

My daughter was burned this weekend. Seems she went to plug something into an extension cord, and the cord blew up and grounded out through her. She has a quarter-sized burn mark on her stomach, but otherwise is fine. I know I am going to take a couple days off from the bar I think - maybe I won't, but I feel pretty beer-ed out. I know, I know, that doesn't sound right and you wonder if I am sick - but I assure you, I am just taking a couple days off.

Welp, I am off to check the race standings. Y'all have a good one!

Hmmmmm.

Well, for those of you that care, I am feeling a bit better today. I think it was the Jack I had last night to help chase away those final flu germs, and the beer to replenish my fluids.

So I get into work today, and the first thing I really read is this. An active duty military person getting demoted, and let go from active duty, all for posing in Playboy. I think I should go out and check this issue out... she didn't look so bad in the basic pics I saw. The article goes on to say she had a 6 page spread, some pics nude with dog tags, and some in partial uniform. I see nothing wrong with those type of pics, especially if like her unit/division and other type of identifying patches were removed. I am sure many of us know what a basic military uniform looks like. So what's so bad about this? I never served in any branch of the military. Maybe I just don't understand. I understand that you ar to respect the uniform, but as I stated above, if it is just a basic "camo" or dress blues/whites is there a problem with it? What do you think?

Other than that, here I am at work, waiting for something to happen. I think sometimes that is all I am here for... to wait for something. At least I have a book, that will last about 2 hours before I am done with it. Then I am screwed again. I may have to go ut at lunch to Targ'et and find another book.

How was your VD? I will say that the bar was plenty empty last night. Which is good - faster service on refills. Alrighty, I am outta here for a bit.

Wrong time to be sick

Yesterday I was sick. So was the youngest boy. And The Wife. In fact, the Wife called into work, but I, no I had to go to work. There were "important things" I had to get done.

I was back home in bed by 10:45. All those "important things" were done as far as I was concerned.

Yes, it's that dreadful flu bug going around. And as of last night, I was holding water down. Then the oldest boy got sick after dinner. It's going to circle the home for days now. I just hope I don;t get it again. Bad enough today I am achy and still having stomach cramps, but I still made it to work (and note, I am all caught up even for missing a day).

So it's one of the f'ing holidays I hate. Supposed to be romantic, and am sick instead. Good excuse to not perform tonight... well, maybe. We'll see how we feel later I guess. For now though, I am tired of typing and will let you all go and enjoy today, cause I ain't.

My mind is gone...

It sure feels like my mind is gone. I had picked up a book on a recomendation from someone, that this book has a puzzle to solve and you can find some ring(s) worth several thousand dollars. One of those treasure hunt things. So I spent damn near all day Sunday reading this book and trying to figure some of the obvious puzzles. I wore my mind out. It was dragging this morning at work, and I did some more figuring on the lunch hour. So, being the type of person I am, I decided to check the internet for what may be out there...hints, tips, cheats, etc. Of course all I got was the forums, which I began to read through. Turns out someone cracked some codes that seemingly were long/lat codes. So I started plugging them in. I found one for a place in the Phoenix area! I'm thinking I am on a roll now. But I couldn't find anything else that may help me. I gonna find a friend that has a GPS (not in car) and see what I can find.

Other than that, things are going normal here. Nothing controversial to bitch about. Nothing overly exciting happened this weekend - Wait! I made the -21 score club on the video game Golden Tee. Now there are two of us in the club. Where you at Don???

I am off to Excel to figure out how to work up a pipeline so everyone can see where my loans are. Exciting stuff.

AZ is good sometimes....

Yes, reading todays news really made me think that Arizona isn't all that bad. Especially this time of year. If you have no idea what I am talking about, think Oswego, NY. As of this morning, they are reporting near 100 inches of snowfall in the past few days, and are sure it will be a higher amount after the seventh day. Yeah, the sunshine, 70 degree weather, and shorts are just fine for me.

So, now we have talked about the weather - Welcome to Friday! That's right, the gateway to the weekend! A weekend that just may be historical as an upset in the Pentahalon I am in. That's right, I am so far back in points I can't win ... but like any good losing team, I am gonna knock out any one I can out of the running! Bowling and pool are our final events, and I am confident I can win one of them...if I am really lucky, maybe both. Monday's post will declare the results.

Topics - I really Could Use One Today!

That's right. I have no topic for discussion today. Nothing major to whine or bitch about. Nothing to interest, or shock, or even bore you to death. Good friggin' reading material for you, I am sure.

Since I have nothing to share with you, I will take a moment and list a few things about me that not very many people know about. Decide then if you still like to read here.

1. I like vanilla ice cream, topped with Ruffles chips, and dill pickle slices.
2. I never had allergies until I turned 20.
3. White chocolate & Macadamia nut is my favorite cookie.
4. Of my friends, all but one is 5+ years older than I.
5. I have never had a hospital stay.
6. I shaved my legs once, just to see what it was like.
7. Stupid people is my biggest peeve.
8. Regardless of the blog name, legs turn me on more than breasts.
9. I am a distant relative of a 1400's pirate.
10. I am a Labor Day baby - my b-day falls on Labor Day every 11 years.

So, now you know some about me, go laugh yourself sick. Maybe next time I should just share some advice I have read or heard over the years. Like:

"A stiff prick has no conscience." - the Reverend Mother
"Marry a woman with small hands - it makes your dick look big." - unknown

Okay, enough sharing stuff today.

Epics - Literary or Televised, Good or Bad?

I have many a night been woken from some of the strangest things to have dreamed about. Except those nights where I drink enough that either I don't recall dreaming, or I never get down to that level of sleep. Either way, lately, say the last week or so, I have been dreaming, and recalling bits and pieces of these dreams up during the day. They seem to have to do with epic tales - be it one I read or a movie, or even televised. Last night for instance, I was in a dream, not as a major character, but my own role, from the book "Centennial" by James Michener. Of course, this was later adapted into a TV mini-series as well. I read the book a few years after seeing the TV show, but I was dreaming along the storyline as my self, and of course that altered teh story somewhat as I knew what events were going to happen, and sort of like Marty McFly from "Back to the Future", I had to readjust things so the correct results happened in the end. It was interesting to say the least.

Todays question for you, my esteemed readers, when it comes to epics (novel or movie or television) which is better, which is preferred, and why?

Now, obviously, since I am a reader, I believe in the written version for probably 99% of epics I have read/seen. I think the 2 main differences I agree with the screen version is "Star Wars" and Star Trek" movies. George Lucas never put the story in book form, til after the movie was made, and the book did its best to follow the movie. But others, "Lord of the Rings", "Shogun", Centennial", "Storm of the Century", etc. I preferred the book. There are alot fo epic screenplays I liked as well as the books, but the book was still better. I believe that is because there is no time limit to capture a full story within a book.

What is your opinion? What are your top three epics you have enjoyed? Let me know...

Back to the Work Week

What a crazy weekend! I am literally feeling worn out and tired from all the activities I partook of. I saw my aunt & uncle from Indiana Friday night. Was good to see them. I think it had been 2 years or more since they were last out here. Of course, being at my sister's house, I was drinking the bottom half of a bottle of Crown Royal.

I slept in Saturday - sort of. One of my buds called and was going to play some video golf about noon'ish. That afternoon there was a bocci ball at another friends house. So I went and played some golf, then went to the other party, bringing in a large bottle of Jack and 2-liter of Coke. This is where I found out about the Pentathalon. The buddies swore I knew about it, but I hadn't heard anything. It consists of 5 events - Bocci ball, ping pong, 18 holes of golf, pool, and bowling. Points are given out to the regular 3 places, and remainder of persons get 4 for each event. Well, since I had not heard it, I missed the bocci ball event. One of the guys decided he wasn't going to do any of the events, so I bought out his spot. I am not good at bocci anyways. I went on to lose at ping pong - after all I have not played since Jr high. I had been drinking my mixture of Coke & Jack for a few hours, and decided it was time to go home. I remember driving most of the route home (distance of about 2 miles) and that is it. I awoke in the dark, sitting in my car, keys sitting on the console, car in the driveway at home. I figured I must have dozed off after I parked for a moment.

I walked inside the house, and it was 1:30am! Shee-it! I headed straight to bed, because we had a tee time of 8am Sunday for golf. Normally I play only about 9-10 holes, as by then my back is painfully spasming, but Sunday I played the whole 18 holes. I also got to try out the new golf sandals my parents had gotten me for Christmas. I wonder if that helped...having good comfy golf shoes... Afterwards, most of us headed up to Bullocks and I ended up watching the SuperBowl there rather than at home. I went home and basically passed out in bed. I awoke this morning feeling the effects of too much drinking this weekend. I think I may hide out for awhile this week and catch some extra winks.

Work is still moving slow, need to get some more loans going. My manager says they are in the works, but just haven't gotten to the stage I need them. Welp, I hope y'all had a good weekend. I am outta here for the meantime.

Quotes near to my heart

I collect quotes. Seriously, I have no idea why, but I do. I even signed up for a daily email that contains quotes, and I copy out what I want. Yeah. I did.

Today has been one of those days. Everyone coming up and asking if I took care of this (Yeah. I did.) or that (Yeah. I did). Couldn't come across one time when I would get to say no sirree bob! And only 2 1/2 hours to go... yeaaaaah, doggie dog!

When I get a little money, I buy books. And if there is any left over, I buy food.
- Desiderius Erasmus, 1466 - 1536

Books! Lord knows I have books once again! Getting back into my old job, wher eI know the money I am making is better than what has been going on before, I signed up for books again. Instead of barely surviving on the courtesy of friends that would loan me out books, I once again am independent. I signed up for the SciFi book club and have 7 books on the way. Plus this past Monday, my amazon.com order came in of 5 books. then I cam across another offer for 1 book a month for (.(5 and free shipping - no obligation. So now will have at least one coming each month. Damn I think this is good.

Tonight I get to do the "family" thing and go out to my sister's with my brood. Seems my uncle and aunt are flying in from Indiana, and want to visit. yee haw. But, my bro in law will be there, and thank god that means there will be whisky. I already made plans with the Wife to wait at home for me so we can all ride together - so I don't have to drive drunk later. Then Saturday is Bocci Ball time at a friend's house. That's another afternoon/evening of adult beverages. By superbowl time I will be on the couch sipping juices to restore some sort of regular fluids to my body.... well, maybe not.

I have been browsing through some of the collections of texts I have, and I think I shall do some sort of extra post today for you, my esteemed (and rather bored) readers. I shall go search somethign out.

Discombobulated, am I

dis·com·bob·u·late /ËŒdɪskÉ™mˈbÉ’byəˌleɪt/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[dis-kuhm-bob-yuh-leyt] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–verb (used with object), -lat·ed, -lat·ing.
to confuse or disconcert; upset; frustrate: The speaker was completely discombobulated by the hecklers.
[Origin: 1825–35, Americanism; fanciful alter. of discompose or discomfort]

Yes, this is one word of the day. I was sitting up at one of my hangouts with my friend, and I popped off some word from the top of my head, and she looked at me like 'WTF does that mean?' So I followed up with this word, and she asked that I explain them both. Having had a few adult beverages, I couldn't think straight enough for an answer that would do justince, so I told her I would post them today ... only I don't remember what the other word was. Started with a "T" though, and was sort of long. Terteriactal? No, I don' think so.

Well, it's Thursday. SuperBowl is this weekend. I am staying home as of this moment. I decided there was no chance I would want to be driving around after the game. Might as well put the 52" TV to use anyways. And I will be able to hear the commercials instead of listening to everyone argue about the last play.

February contains one of my most hated day of celebration. I even try to stay out of stores during the first part of the month. I get so sick & tired of hearts, and candies, and the word 'love' being thrust upon me as I am there to pick up a gallon of milk, or something. The Wife and I do not exchange gifts for this, or any other holiday. I want her to feel my love, I do things for her, that I normally would not do. I tell her. I don't need some damn card, or flowers, or candies to tell/show her. Another f'ing day for merchants to make money. Valentine had nothing to do with romance anyways. It was a damn feast (which I would prefer) for some martyred saints, one of which was a doctor. That is per Wikipedia - so take it how you will.

Enough for today I think. I am getting sleepy sitting here doing nothing at work. Another one of those days. Two hours to go though, and then I can go have some beers and read my book.
